Enough of the misogynistic talk from this man on our radio. He insult all women inside and outside of the service. Please remove him from the airways. By keeping on it means you approve of this man. Enough is Enough!

Ms Warrio1-
The American Forces Network does not censor content and we do not seek to protect our overseas Department of Defense audience from hearing views with which they may disagree. Our mission is to offer program choices, which includes both the one-hour versions and three-hour version of various popular political talk shows.
To review our radio services/schedules, please visit www.myafn.net.
Thanks for your support of the troops and for your interest in AFN.
Sincerely,
*******
So the Arm Service radio approves of rush's remarks. Shame on them.

(3,690 posts)BULFUCKINGSHIT. They want warriors. Yoou know, boys will be boys. They want them hard. And Rush hardens them. No, not like that. Sociopath. Maybe they will even be useful as domestic protest suppression.

(12,325 posts)Shame on you. You have no respect for women and the men who love and want to protect them.
This is a sad day.
When would it be enough for you?

(8,556 posts)AFN brings radio shows to the troops. Rush's is somewhat popular here, so it's reasonable to assume there is demand for it among the troops as well. End of story.
Why should what you think about Rush impact what people can listen to on the AFN?
I'm not criticizing your decision to let them know where you stand, I just don't think your opinion should have much bearing on what people can hear on AFN.

It isn't as if there is a quantitative way to compare left vs right.
The left also suffers for not having a successful counter-balance to Limbaugh. As it stands he is the most popular program in America.
I do remember when I was last there watching left-oriented news programs (i.e. Olbermann before he crashed and burned.)
No matter what though, the decisions should be left to the Soldiers. If they don't want him, or any other program, they can make that known.

(82,849 posts)The Constitution says that Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech. It doesn't say a word about who gets untrammeled time on the Armed Forces Radio Network, and AFRN isn't "censoring" anyone if it changes its programming choices. Limbaugh is perfectly free to continue with his program, it just wouldn't be carried on AFRN. I wonder how our women in uniform feel, hearing Mr. Limbaugh's opinions?
By that "logic," I guess AFRN is censoring anyone it doesn't carry.
The "censorship" excuse is broth so thin that water thinks it's weak.

(34,136 posts)1. Rush Limbaugh is not a political figure. His followers insist that he is an entertainer and have repeatedly insisted on that designation. His show is straight entertainment according to his followers.
2. Rush Limbaugh has repeatedly denigrated and insulted half of the population of the United States with his misogynist views and opinions of women. This has gone beyond what is generally considered acceptable on the publicly owned airways.
3. Limbaugh is an admitted drug addict, not a good example for our troops. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rush_Limbaugh#Prescription_drug_addiction
4. Normal sane people do not go on diatribes accusing a young women whose only public exposure was to testify in front of Congress of being a slut or solicit pornographic videos from them.
5. Our armed forces have an acknowledged problem with rape in the ranks to the point that Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has called it "the epidemic" of rape and sexual assaults in our armed forces. "In 2010, an estimated 19,000 service members were raped or sexually assaulted by other service members. Clearly, more resources devoted to counseling for victims and training for prosecutors and judges will help." http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/07/opinion/speier-military-rape/index.html
* While sexual assaults are notoriously under‐reported, this problem is exacerbated in military settings. The Department of Defense (DOD) estimates that only 13.5% of survivors report the assault, and that in 2010 alone, over 19,000 sexual assaults occurred in the military.
* Approximately 55% of women and 38% of men report that their assailant sexually harassed or stalked them prior to the incident of rape or sexual assault.
* Prosecution rates for sexual predators are astoundingly lowin 2010, less than 21% of reported cases went to trial. Of these 529 alleged perpetrators who were prosecuted, only 53% were convicted while 41% were acquitted or had charges dismissed. An additional 6% were discharged or resigned in lieu of courts‐martial (RILO), which effectively means the military allowed rapists quit their jobs in order to avoid facing charges.

How much does Limbaugh contribute to an atmosphere that encourages rape in the military? If his attitudes are propagated among the military, it certainly cannot help reduce this problem.
Rush Limbaugh is not just offensive to half the American population, he is a danger to the capability and morale of our troops. "Entertainers" have been banned from the airways for fewer outrages than Limbaugh has created. Why should he be allowed on the air at all, much less being allowed to corrupt out armed forces?
I don't have the energy to initiate a dialogue with AFN about this - why don't you run with it?

(27,993 posts)Programming that encourages the questioning of authority may not be what top brass want to feed to their imperial occupation troops.
