(9,033 posts)Unfortunately it is the business community that keeps propping them up, as useful idiots.
But spectacular collapses have happened before (from a million members to 30,000 in just a few years...wow!).

(11,364 posts)The republicans, tightly controlled by their most extreme element, continue to alienate potentially supportive groups. The business community is one of the last to go, but at this point, they're gone too.
truebluegreen
(9,033 posts)but now I think the Frankenstein monster has escaped their control. I doubt if big business in general has much of a problem with a shutdown--since they are big enough to wait for their money in the short term and want government "out of the way" in the long term--but a default is a whole 'nother kettle of fish.
I don't see Democrats or the Administration winning this fight (although they could certainly lose it) and for once I have to root for Big Business to lower the boom and put an end to this nonsense. A shattered Republican / corporatist / rightwing / conservative movement is the best thing that could happen and I've got my fingers and toes crossed.
If a bunch of them were getting drunk on the House floor last night maybe they see it coming too...

Horton Sees An Idiot - brilliant. Even better that Horton (not by his own choosing, I'm sure) is the GOP symbol.
Mr. Cruz's choice of Green Eggs and Ham seems lile a classic demonstration of unintended consequences. Gotta love it.
