Im finishing up nine years in the Senate, Coburn said. Nobody has a higher conservative rating than I do. Im now no longer a conservative according to the standards that have been set by the expectation of this process.

I won't be a bit surprised to see it come to a head and destroy the whole party at their 2016 convention.
The Reagan coalition can't last much longer.

(32,017 posts)The "Tea Party" isn't even real. It is, and always has been, a "brand" trotted out by the Republicans when their own brand's popularity was in the toilet. Now, the "Tea Party" brand is merely a scapegoat that they're using to rescue the "Republican" and "conservative" brands.
No, the problem is Grover Norquist and the fact that so many signed on to his insane pledge. The Republican base loved it, but the hands of Republican legislators have been completely tied by it, and they now can't govern without infuriating their base.
