Obama's 'Taxicab Bump'

Michael Hastings on Barack Obama: "We shall see"

On Thursday evening, "Piers Morgan Tonight" welcomed author and journalist Michael Hastings for a candid and engaging interview on subject matter ranging from Afghanistan to Washington.

"You could tell this guy (then-Senator Obama) was obviously one of the most talented politicians around, clearly he vindicated that," remembers Hastings.

While Hastings notes that there have been "some troubling aspects" with Obama's first term, he maintains the president has completely reshaped American foreign policy:

"I call it the 'taxicab bump': During the Bush years, when you'd get in a taxicab in a foreign country, and you told them you were American, they really, really, really didn't like that," Hastings tells Piers Morgan. "But ever since Obama's been in charge, when you get in a taxicab in Iman(sp), or even Bagdad, they're pretty, you get the bump, and they appreciate the Americanism of it."
