George H.W. Bush Serves as Official Witness at Same-Sex Wedding

George H.W. Bush Serves as Official Witness at Same-Sex Wedding

Over the weekend, former President George H.W. Bush served as an official witness at the wedding of Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen in Maine.

The couple posted a photo of the President signing a set of documents at their outdoor celebration. A rep confirmed President Bush and his wife’s presence as "private citizens attending a private ceremony for two friends."

Many in Bush's inner circle have publically announced their support for same-sex marriage, including former First Lady Laura Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney, former United States Secretary of State Colin Powell and daughter Barbara Bush, who joined HRC's New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign in 2011.

The upper class in this country has never really cared much about any of the social 'wedge' issues, including homosexuality (after all, they've always had their share 'maiden aunts' and 'funny uncles' running around). But they cynically exploit these issues to gin up the irrational fears of social conservatives, in order to garner their votes. Once in office, they pursue their toxic economic agenda, which is really the only thing they actually do care about!

I knew gay men working for W back in 1994. Not campaign voluteers but paid on staff travel aids within the inner circle. They just couldnt be publically out. But Hughes,Rove, etc. knew they were gay.

I have to tip my hat to G.H.W.B. for this. As the father of a proud, well-balanced, and respected lesbian daughter, I'm grateful for this noteworthy show of support.
That said, W can still burn in eternal hellfire for all I care.
