Walmart is CAVING to bad press and not cutting hours of full time workers for ACA!

Check out this article from the bastion of liberalism that is forbes magazine!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/rickungar/2013/09/25/wal-mart-returning-to-full-time-workers-obamacare-not-such-a-job-killer-after-all/

Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest employer, announced Monday that 35,000 part-time employees will soon be moved to full-time status, entitling them to the full healthcare benefits that were scheduled to be denied them as a result of Wal-Mart’s efforts to avoid the requirements of Obamacare.

While some analysts believe that the move comes as Wal-Mart is attempting to deal with the negative view many Americans have of its worker benefits program, a closer look reveals the real reason for the shift—

Wal-Mart’s business is going south due to the company’s penchant for putting politics and the squeeze on Wal-Mart employees ahead of the kind of customer satisfaction that produces prosperity over the long-term.

In fact, Wal-Mart’s unwillingness to pay most of their workers a livable wage, while avoiding enough full-time employees to properly run a retail outlet, has led to the company placing dead last among department and discount stores in the most recent American Customer Satisfaction Index—a position that should now be all to familiar to the nation’s largest retailer given that Wal-Mart has either held or shared the bottom spot on the index for six years running.

So apparently Forbes has snuck in a liberal columnist Rick Unger.

because they can't manage with only temps. That the shelves are disorganized and they are losing customers.

I think that would be more influential than bad press.

and now it is not unusual to have them out of stock.
Just walking down the aisles it looks sad. Always lines at the checkouts and the employees look so sad.

They lie about their prices, they scan up more than any other store. Thjeir parking lot is dangerous, they do not provide proper security and they treat their workers poorly and we all end up paying for those low prices in food stamp subsidies.

I have a friend who shops there because she says she does not have a lot of money, I told her I don't think she is doing as well as she thinks, I would rather buy a t shirt or blouse that can be worn for years than something that gets ruined pretty quickly - that is how I keep my bills down, I hardly ever buy clothes. 25 dollar t-shirt lasted 30 years - 5 dollar tshirt only a few washes, stains easily. Note - not designer label, just good quality. Competitive food prices available in locals stores, maybe I just live in a good town, but do not need a Walmart.

... and it was a bizarre scene. Just as the article describes, the shelves were empty and people were standing in very long lines to purchase what they could.

But what made the whole visit so surreal was the fact the store is near a hotel that was having a Southern Comfort convention - a cross-dressers organization. Wal-mart was full of pre-op, post-op and plain vanilla cross-dressers wandering the aisles.

7. it's not bad press, or being good to employees that caused Walmart to change

Their earnings are down and the bottom line is all that Wal-Mart cares about. They identified the problem as not being able to keep the shelves stocked because they couldn't keep enough part-time employees, so they had to go back to their old structure.

11. Wonder if they will continue to treat them like slaves(?) on 24 hour call?

People need to have some structure to their lives so they can make plans etc.
That is another practice they need to change.
Sorry if slave is a bad reference. I can't think of another word that would give the concept I wish to portray.
- if you have another word, tell me.
