LOS ANGELES —Gov. Jerry Brown has put his signature on a bill that will hike California's minimum wage to $10 an hour within three years.

The legislation signed Wednesday will raise the current minimum of $8 an hour to $9 on July 1, 2014, and then to $10 on Jan. 1, 2016.

It's the first increase in California's minimum wage in six years.

Brown has called the bill an overdue piece of legislation that will help working-class families.

1. We need a realistic gauge for inflation & minimum wage tied to it

and it should be automatic...

the way the inflation figures are figured now, is ridiculous..

I always bristle when news reports tell us how LOW inflation is..

In my lifetime:

I could go to a movie for less than an hour's pay (75cents an hour back then)
I could FILL my full-sized sedan for less than 4 hour's pay (1.00 an hour)
My rent was less than one week's paycheck (1.50 hr)
