"It's better that they DO Starve to Death when they are children."

"That way they will not ever practice their heathen religion and they can go straight to the arms of Jesus."

One of the many bat-shit crazy people in the church I grew up in said.

I was trying to collect funds for starving children in Africa.

It was one of my first wattafuk moments. Realizing they didn't see those Bible tales of massive floods and towers of gobblelygok as fictional reality tales along the lines of Aesop or Paul Bunyan...? They thought this shit went down as written.

I knew from the age of 6 or so I would need to fake to survive.

Jesus says to take care of the poor. He didn't say only the poor who believed in him. UGH.

they don't want to help others. Rather than hide behind some convoluted theology, it would be refreshing to hear someone say that they're saving up for a flat-screen.

The poor are screwed beyond belief from when I was a kid.

Cruelty and greed are celebrated nowadays.

Presenting stories where a father was willing to impale his child because a voice in his head said so?

I'm glad you saw the remark for what it was. It's a testament to your own individual intelligence (and perhaps your upbringing!) that you were able to understand that at the ripe old age of 6.

Good for you. And I hope you continued with your collection of funds for the less fortunate.
