Grand Theft Auto Dating Advice

This is NOT offered as a slam on GTA. It is a bit more complicated than that. Starting with GTA 4 the player could go on dates with women in the game. As with any element in a computer game, there is a culture of tricks and tips to advance game goals in the context of the game.

We expect things like, "The mega-boss robot can only be killed by a blockbuster missile to the red triangle on his back," or, "asking the wizard how to get to Roan will add cause you quiver to refill with arrows."

That kind of matter-of-fact tactical observation, however, became very twisted and darkly comic when gamers started describing how to best work the dating options in GTA, and wags started collecting "dating advice" from GTA forums and FAQs. This was an internet "thing" a few years ago, and since GTA is being discussed here for some reason, I figured it was worth sharing for folks who missed it the first time around.

Again, this is not offered to make people angry with GTA, which really is just a game. But if a hypothetical person thought GTA was a real-life dating guide...

If you kill a girl through abuse, she will no longer be your girlfriend.

The main reason to date a girl … is to get stuff from her.

If you raise your relationship level with a girl to 100% you’ll be given a special outfit.

You can date more than one girl at once, and as far as I know, your other girlfriends won’t mind if you pick up another.

The easiest way … is to get into a car, and then quickly drive away before your girlfriend can get in.

If you’re going to kiss a girl, give her a gift first.

Don’t worry if you go to the same place every time, she doesn’t mind.

Fill the fun bar all the way to the top and keep it there for a few seconds to have a successful date.

Every type of date can end with an invitation into the girl’s house for “coffee.”

If you let her shoot you until you die, your relationship with her will go up by 10%.

Note that although Barbara is a law enforcement official, she won’t care if you commit crimes around her.

Dildos are large, floppy, and pink. They are fun to hit people with, and they make a great gift.

The vibrator looks like a large silver bullet. You can stab people with it, or you can give it to one of your girlfriends.

I’m not sure the exact conditions required to get dumped by a girl, but it can definitely happen.

I have mixed feelings about all of this.

I do think the game is rude and distasteful in that regard but I can also see things like that as funny sometimes. I think this post about the game is funnier than the game itself. My problem with it is young kids play the game and the ones how are allowed/able to play these sorts of games are usually unsupervised and given less guidance about life in general and I see them ending up being the sort of guys who objectify women and are sexist and misogynistic.

Do they let you play a female character in that game where you get to treat the guys like shit?
