How long will it be before one of those people open carrying in a public place

"jokingly" point at someone and "accidentally" shoot them because (a) the gun wasn't supposed to be loaded,
(b) it just went off accidentally, (c) other?

And of course it was just a tragic accident, the crazy #$%^*^ is of course a *responsible* gun owner.

since open carry has been legal in most states since they became states and before, if it hasn't happened already, that should tell you something.

6. The fact that open carry has been legal in most states for some time is not the issue.

The problem is the gun lobby pushing legislation to weaken existing laws that results in less experienced and less responsible gun owners carrying in public.

Is not the case. Here and in many other states open carry without any form of license has been legal (prohibited persons excluded) for a very long time.

State laws on open carry vary widely. Six states and the District of Columbia fully prohibit the open carry of handguns. On the other side, twelve states permit open carry of a handgun without requiring the citizen to apply for any permit or license. Thirteen states require some form of permit (often the same permit as allows a person to carry concealed), and the remaining seventeen states, though not prohibiting the practice in general, do not preempt local laws or law enforcement policies, and/or have significant restrictions on the practice, such as prohibiting it within the boundaries of an incorporated urban area. Illinois allows open carry on private property only.

But I think the odds are far more in favor of the NYPD shooting a handful of bystanders while missing the unarmed suspect.

3. You don't get it: "Good guy with a gun" doesn't makes mistakes.

Therefore the shooter never was a "good guy with a gun". He didn't know it, but he always was a "bad guy with a gun". And the only way to keep "bad guys with guns" in check is more guns.

I wonder, if people would be safer if they carry TWO guns with them. Humans have TWO hands after all.

an unloaded firearm being carried for SD is basically useless. When it comes time to protect lives seconds count.

People have been OCin' for years, it's not a recent trend.
