Maduro Blames Spiderman For Violence In Venezuela

Maduro Blames Spiderman For Violence In Venezuela
The Huffington Post | By Ryan Craggs Posted: 09/18/2013 4:37 pm EDT | Updated: 09/18/2013 4:38 pm EDT

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has carried the torch from his predecessor Hugo Chavez with zeal, regularly denouncing the politics and culture of the United States. It comes as little surprise, then, that Maduro would have a peculiar explanation of what lies at the root of violence in Venezuela:

Spiderman.

Maduro made his bizarre claim in the Bolivian daily La Opinión on Wednesday, telling the newspaper he saw a distinct correlation between youth violence and superhero idolization, a connection he said contributed to a "factory of antivalues."

-

"I start to think how many thousands of hours of violence that kid will have consumed, in the end, stimulated by consumerism and violence when he grabs a 9 mm and goes to kill," Maduro added.

The Venezuelan president said he made the connection this week after watching the film Spiderman 3 with his wife:

That's the trouble, from the beginning until the end there are more and more dead. And that's one of the series small children love most... because it's attractive, it's from comics that are attractive, the figure, the colors and movements... so much so that we finished watching it at four in the morning.

He's Mister Malaprop of South America!!!!

Check these gaffes out-- pathetic, AND hilarious...

Opponents though, among the nearly half of Venezuelans who did not vote for Maduro in April, often portray him as an ignoramus who only won power because he had Chavez's blessing and has been incapable of creating any identity of his own.

Maduro's most embarrassing mixup was when he was alluding to the biblical miracle of Jesus feeding the multitude. The president spoke of a multiplication of "penises" instead of "fishes", muddling the Spanish words "penes" and "peces."

On that occasion last month, Maduro apologized.

During his multiple Chavez-style, meandering live appearances on state TV, Maduro has also caused titters by telling a nurse to check his heart with a "telescope" instead of a stethoscope, and muddled up his masculine and feminine endings in Spanish grammar with the word "millions."

Showing a healthy sense of humor, Maduro satirized his own misuse of the Spanish word "millonas", instead of "millones", saying he had made a formal request to the Spanish Language Academy for its inclusion as a new term.

He has also laughed in public at opponents' nickname for him, "Maburro" - a wordplay on the Spanish for donkey, "burro."

On Twitter, the president has sometimes misspelled words in messages to his 1.35 million followers.

His image was not helped over the weekend when he fell of his bike during a government sports event....

Has anybody ever seen George W. Bush and Nicolás Maduro in the same place at the same time?

Two clumsy oafs that butcher the Spanish language and have a habit of speaking in malapropisms become leaders of geographically-close nations within 10 years of each other. What are the odds?

We both know Bush has no ideas in his own head anyways and parrots whatever is said to him.

i would say on ideas Maduro has none of his own either. Maduro parrots his Cuban masters while Bush had Dick and Rummy.

Neither can ride a bike as well.

I did forget to post the link I think. If you click on the hot link in HP article it takes you to the Spanish link where he specifically mentions Spider Man and though about the violence connection but that didn't make him turn it off apparently.
