http://sfist.com/2013/09/18/map_youd_need_to_work_5_minimum_wag.phpThe S.F. Department of Public Health released a map that shows just how many full-time minimum wage jobs you'd need to rent a 2BR in San Francisco at fair market rates (FMR). The numbers aren't pretty and certainly not conducive to a city once known as a sanctuary for those trying to escape the horrors of Whatever, Iowa. Or worse.
"In the Mission, for example, it would take 5.5 jobs to pay the current market rate for an apartment," notes Tim Redmond. The numbers get more depressing in Civic Center, SoMa, and North Beach, just to name a few noted neighborhoods.

I certainly couldn't afford my studio with a minimum-wage job!

to live in S.F. I spent a couple of weeks there once and I really enjoyed it, but that was about 20 years ago. I think the city has gotten a little too snooty for its own good. It's going to lose its character if only rich people live there. I'm sure it's safer now, but they're really losing a lot of culture.
