Kelly Ayotte ✔ @KellyAyotte

Deeply saddened by tragedy @ Navy Yard in DC. Thoughts & prayers are w/ all affected–esp victims & their families & 1st responders on scene

Erica Lafferty @E_Laffs2

@KellyAyotte You said the same after my mother's murder and didn't act, are you ready to start taking steps to reduce gun violence now? 4:31 PM - 16 Sep 2013

Are you, Senator Ayotte? And, not just lip service condolences to the victims' families? Are you gong to do your part in actually Doing something about it?

Anything else is, well, too much like work.

That, plus the fact that they want to keep their seats. That there is enough reason for them to only offer good thoughts and best wishes. Doing something more substantive would take courage.

Ayotte is in a position to do something about gun violence but refuses to do so. Her "thoughts and prayers" are therefore nothing but a hollow cliché.

if a politician doesn't say something like that, they'll get criticized for being insensitive or out of touch. (not to single out Ayotte, whom I hope gets trounced in her next election...)

I'm sure a bunch of other Republicans (and Democrats) put out similar tweets.

and the rest only know how to do lip service. Lips flapping in the wind. Not a single ounce of compassion behind their words, no intention at all to make the changes we so drastically need. Yup it's lip service pure and simple.

It breaks my heart.

So sad Cha~

that led to this tweet from Erica Lafferty to Sen Kelly Ayotte.

Nothing gets through to the hearts of those who take money from the NRA to keep their jobs. They are more important in their minds than potentially saving lives. They are the opposite of courageous.
