RNC Statement Commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month. Wondering if they will change it later

RNC Statement Commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month
Posted September 15, 2013

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chairman Sharon Day released the following statement commemorating Hispanic Heritage Month:

“Today begins the month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and of Hispanics’ countless contributions to American life,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “Whether a recent immigrant or fifth-generation American, Hispanics’ roots play a vital role in shaping our American Dream. Throughout our nation’s history, Hispanics’ diverse customs and cultures have enriched our country’s fabric.

“We celebrate, too, the values of faith and family, entrepreneurialism and hard work shared by so many in the Hispanic community. And to make sure we are working together in our shared pursuit of job opportunities, quality education, and strong families, our party has made an unprecedented commitment to engaging Hispanics communities across America early and often. The road to 2016 and beyond will be about having a year-round presence in precincts and neighborhoods to ensure we are sharing our message of growth and opportunity with Latino voters and listening to their concerns.

“This week also marks the independence days of several Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile. We wish all a happy celebration.”

“America is blessed by its diversity, and Hispanic Heritage Month is an occasion to celebrate our varied background and shared values,” said Co-Chairman Day. “Our heritage may be different, but our futures are intertwined as Americans.”

RNC Statement on Hispanic Heritage Month
Posted September 15, 2012

WASHINGTON - RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Co-Chair Sharon Day released the following statement on the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month:

“For generations, Hispanics have strengthened our society and our country. We honor their many contributions during Hispanic Heritage Month, a tradition begun in 1988 when President Ronald Reagan expanded Hispanic Heritage Week into a month-long celebration,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus.

“Across this nation, Hispanics have for centuries enriched the American experience. They have selflessly served their country in the armed forces, for which we owe a debt of immense gratitude. In pursuit of the American Dream, they have invigorated our economy, and with a tireless entrepreneurial spirit, many have built and grown businesses.

“But today, the economy isn’t working for far too many Hispanics. These hard working Americans deserve a country that honors their values, their work, and their sacrifice and an Administration that is committed to restoring the American Dream.”

“This month is a chance for all Americans to discover and rediscover the richness and diversity of the Hispanic community,” said RNC Co-Chair Sharon Day. “We honor their past, and recommit ourselves to fighting for the future we will all share–one where everyone has a shot at the American Dream. Republicans, led by Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, are committed to leading us toward that future, where the opportunities that drew generations to America are once again abundant.”

“Our heritage may be different, but our futures are intertwined as Americans.” This follows the rules of proper English where "Our" refers to us collectively as "Americans" as possessing prior heritage. Or has the United States ceased being a melting pot of diverse cultures from many different origins? Are we now to shun all that which does not conform to the monolithic American culture?

"They were doing so good until that last sentence too "Our heritage may be different".... uhhhh, lol whut?"

So a Jewish immigrant's heritage is the same as a Guatemalan's? Maasai marriage customs are interchangable with Greek ones? A Paiute would blend right in with the Japanese?

Call the GOP out for actual bullshit (lord knows there's plenty, daily) not obtuse made-up nonsense.

I read "our heritage may be different" as meaning "our heritage may be different from your heritage." In other words: Republican heritage is different from Latino heritage.
