(40,416 posts)Not everything is pols and policy.
I've recently rediscovered the Weekly Challenge, the monthly photo contest, and (OMFG) Sunday Lol Cats. Regardless of any artistic critique, all are decidedly not pols and policy.
DU community is deep and wide. It helps to take a swim once in a while.
Mz Pip's photo contests are recently on my watch list for the first time. These are the type of things that makes DU such a fucking awesome place.
And who doesn't love the Lounge's (and SalmonChantedEvening's) Sunday LOL Cats?
Way to go, Mz Pip! Thank you for being the best of DU.

(46,436 posts)The way it works is the winner of the monthly contest wins, as the prize, the honor of hosting the next month's contest. The host is precluded from entering. Sometimes the host picks a topic, as Mz Pip did this month, or sometimes we do a poll in the photo group to see what topic the majority wants.
We are always happy for new participants, so photographers should drop in to our group. In my opinion, it's the best group on DU. I learned almost everything I know about photography from photo group members.

(40,416 posts)Now I'm even more awed by what you are doing here.
Will continue to pay attention.
Nota bene: I have absolutely no artistic talent, so I will not ever post a pic. But alas, those who do will have to suffer with my choices.

(22,380 posts)make your choices in our monthly contests, but invite you to stop in at the photo forum to clear your head and see pretty visuals we create with our cameras.
We think we are one of the least controversial groups on DU, beauty and co-operation oriented in general, and dedicated to just having fun and learn from each other.
And comments are always welcome. Non-photographers actually enhance our scope.

(40,416 posts)I am unfortunately bandwidth limited here, and with a monthly usage ceiling -- the travails of living in very rural MI. But I promise to return. I'll be back.

(18,637 posts)Though a couple entries are running away with the votes, all these finalists are absolutely incredible. Any one of them could stand alone as a great photograph. I'm torn between two of them.
On edit:
A modest contribution to my PayPal account could help me decide. -hahahaha

(65,443 posts)"Purple and Green," but it's way ahead of the pack. I also love "Lavender Sky," but it is also doing well. But "Static" is right up there, too, with "Purple Sky" as my second fave, so I voted for "Static," to keep it in the running, too.
There are so many amazing ones in this group, but "Purple and Green" really is astonishing.
