The United Nations weighs in on Zimmerman

George Zimmerman’s Very Bad Week – Speeding Ticket, Divorce And Now The U.N.?

“We call upon the US Government to examine its laws that could have discriminatory impact on African Americans, and to ensure that such laws are in full compliance with the country’s international legal obligations and relevant standards,” said human rights expert Verene Shepherd, who currently heads the UN Working Group of Experts of People of African Descent.

“The Trayvon Martin case has highlighted the importance of the need to review those existing laws and policies that can have a discriminatory effect on the basis of race, as African Americans become more vulnerable to such discrimination,” Ms. Shepherd said, recalling that the US has been party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights since 1992, the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination since 1994, and many other international human rights law treaties.

“States are required to take effective measures to review governmental, national and local policies, and to amend, rescind or nullify any laws and regulations which have the effect of creating or perpetuating racial discrimination wherever it exists,” said the Special Rapporteur on racism, Mutuma Ruteere.

You're right--the gun nuts won't give up anything.

In my state of Iowa, there is a new law that allows blind people to carry guns in public.

Here's a link so you won't think that I've been snorting drain cleaner.

will say that this is the very reason the Founders wrote the Second Amendment: to keep these meddlesome furineers out'n our bidness.

Next thing you know, they'll be asking us to be responsible for the guns that make the United States the most dangerous gun nation in the Western World. It's our right to be number one I tell ya! Because Second Amendment, and Freedom, and My Rights!

I just don't see what would be used to make the case... Short of the cost of Zimmerman defending himself I don't think anything would come of it.

an unarmed child can be gunned down and killed by an adult packing heat and it is virtually impossible to convict the killer of a crime under existing state law. Sadly, this concept and verdict seem hunky-dory with tens of millions of god-fearing 'Merikans.

hopefully the world will really see where we are sliding back to voting prohibition when it comes to the poor and disadvantaged and our racist culture is and continues to be perpetuated in the halls of power of this country and on our college campuses effectively building a new generation of racist 'leaders'. We need to check ourselves in the mirror. Zimmerman your name is synonymous with racist ameriKKKan hate now. I hope you are proud. I know a lot are proud of you.

there are bound to still be lasting effects from this case. This just brought racism front and center, and scared the hell out of a generation of non-white kids. That doesn't fade easily.
