The station reports Dearborn Heights police received a call August 26 about a dog in the Rouge River with a brick tied to his leg. Police responded to the scene and rescued the Labrador-retriever they've nicknamed nicknamed "River."
Elaine Greene, director of the Dearborn Animal Shelter, said in a statement that the person who threw the defenseless dog in the river should be considered dangerous.
The animal, who is believed to be about 2 years old, was taken to an animal shelter where he will eventually go up for adoption, according to CBS Detroit.
The Humane Society of the United States reportedly offered $5,000 in addition to the $1,000 reward offered by the Dearborn Animal Shelter for the conviction of whoever is responsible in the case.

(13,704 posts)for dog mushers to rid unwanted dogs/puppies from their teams. They only wanted the best dogs, of course.
Hopefully that practice no longer exists- Happened many years ago. Dogs have been recognized for being our best friends over the years and get their due respect.

(558 posts)I was a young kid, about 8 or 10 years old. My dad had a friend who lived on a farm in the country and I don't remember anything else about the visit to this family other than one of the kids saying that they used kittens as hunting practice. Mind you I really don't have anything against hunting for food (which they did) but I loved cats/kittens and that really stuck a chord with me.
Its the only memory I have of that family. I think their cat had a litter or something and they told me what was going to happen to the kittens.

(1,415 posts)you tie it to the NECK, NOT the LEG! Also, you do that with puppies, not 2-year-old dogs. That dog is old enough to deserve a bullet to the base of the skull, or at least a cinder block.
Amateurs. Deserve to get caught...
(because some people might not get the without the smilie).
