(47,209 posts)NYers didn't want the wars, the rest of the country did. I know the flyover states don't need increased security but my thinking on that is tough shit. They were the ones screaming for blood, deal with it.

(20,958 posts)it's not zero-sum. it's not the pain of 9/11 families vs the ongoing erosion of the Bill of Rights. it's not flyover states vs the eastern seaboard. over-the-top security is punishing us and making security companies rich.
this "tough shit" sentiment is illustrative of how far we continue to be divided by war making...and illustrative at how easy it is to get buy-in from americans who're eager to point fingers at 'the other guys' who're scapegoated.
i'm sorry, but it's not americans in Kansas or Nebraska who installed these machines in airports. it's the representatives of nearly all our congressional districts who signed-on to the Patriot Act.

(47,209 posts)outsiders to judge it's not needed is all. They didn't suffer this great tragedy with us- and much as they claimed otherwise- can't empathize at all to this day. I'd rather not live to see the WTC - which is 8 blocks from my job, hit a third time. Preventing that is not an easy task, impossible for man to relate to.
Nothing sad about it. If you want to fly, and I do love flying, it about takes 20 min longer, and I do not mind a single bit. Sure there are glitches and some who abuse the system and not everything goes perfectly.

(12,151 posts)The entire national security system, while in part a reaction to 9/11, is nevertheless not specifically just to do with keeping NYC from being attacked again. Nor it is in fact preventing such an attack with tactics like fondling children's butts.
It is quite flatly a false argument to suggest that silly abuses like the one above are preventing any kind of attack.
It's also highly unlikely that all New Yorkers think all TSA procedures are protecting them from another 9/11 and are therefore great, if that's supposed to be the implication.

(47,209 posts)because 90% know that once more, it will not touch them in any way- while we in NYC do not have the luxury of being so easily assured. We have adjusted to extra security in offices and huge public gatherings just fine. It's part of the deal, which is sweet in so many other ways.
Everyone gets their butt touched here when they ride the subway, LOL, sorry it's just not that big of a deal in NYC.
Too easy for the rest of the country to be flip about 9/11, but me being flip about butt touching is a major sin, right? Yeah, I get it.
