The World did not foist the Policeman's job on us

That is an American mythology... part of our whole self-pitying lonely unappreciated giant shtick.

We fought like heck (over a century) to create the position, get the job, and hold the job.

We then justify it with, everyone else is unreasonable so the job logically falls to us as the world's only reasonable people, and we thus shoulder the burden reluctantly.

But just let somebody else try to relieve us of that awful burden and watch the fireworks.
