Credit where it's due: Obama has done more for the causes of peace and democracy than any President

in the last 60 years.

Due to the ham-handedness of his war propaganda and whistleblower-persecution efforts, his Administration has presided over what shows every sign of becoming the Great Awakening of the American public.

From the 1% versus the 99% message of Occupy Wall Street to the "Hell No We Won't Go" response of the American public to the prospect of new wars in the Middle East, average people are catching on.

There was a popular bumper sticker in the 60's that said, "What if they gave a war and nobody came?" I have waited 50 years to find out the answer to that question. Thanks Barack Obama for maybe giving me a chance to at last find out.

But ya can't get everything into one post.

Really, though, I do think people are starting to wake up. Just too many cries of Wolf, too many gut-wrenching examples of perfidy in the halls of political and economic power.

...they're only reading the headlines.

I suspect that I could write a headline which would extol the virtues of whatever passes at the moment for a progressive cause, then write the body of the post tearing it apart and the recs and the +1s would be a fait accomplit.

My perception of DUers as "smarter than the average bears" has taken a hit somewhat in the past few years.

Iraq. The largest peace demonstration in history. Given the time frame, it would be hard to repeat, but I think it could be possible, given people's feelings across the globe about American militarism.

I've been in a few of those disappeared protests. At least in the sixties, the media wasn't in bed with DC so much. Nowadays, most of them are just mouthpieces. Megaphones for imperialism.

Considering the wars he ended and his proposed nuke reductions...and you got what? Bad, bad drones? Would you prefer troops on the ground? And regarding Syria, if Obama does nothing these same people who now complain about his plan would be throwing hissy fits because he didn't intervene.

Drones are bad. Drones or boots is a false choice.

Regarding you argument on Syria, it is not even serious enough to be addressed.

I'm sure it was a typo, but maybe you've created a new term.

I see no good options given so much of our economy is MIC based. And Assad and Putin are tyrants. Some may love a tyrant. For the first time in my own life, I understand why.

I hold out hope for a pivot to multilateral action based on as much pressure as possible with an effort to get everyone in the Middle East involved in a "Vatican II" type conference. There needs to be a Call to Mecca for the purpose of stopping the slaughter of fellow Muslims.

That's my pitch of the day.

They are not through with this yet...once they start the campaign to scare the shit out of people and win them over to bombing they will fall in line as usual...at at least that is what they think.

I would love to believe that we have woken up, but I know the power of the media is real...and has always worked before.
As an example torture...we now never even think about it any more and it is probably still being used...but so many people saw programs like 24 they came to believe it was nessesary...and now it is a ho hum.
