9/13/13PLEASE VISIT THE INDIVIDUAL WISHLIST POSTS (links are given below), WHERE THERE ARE FUNDRAISING "WIDGETS" INSERTED. The widgets show the progress of the fundraisers.
The widget updates automatically if it is used for the donation, but the DUers who created the Wishlist posts are giving me periodic updates (sometimes people mail donations or don't use the widget) of total amount received, and I manually update the widget to reflect it as often as I can.
If Wishadoo is going to continue to have so many individual fundraisers (remember, I didn't set it up to be a fundraising site), I'm going to see if I can get a quote on modifying the Wishlist section of the site to have tools and features similar to fundraising platforms, to make this process easier on all concerned.

(I was previously given permission by Skinner to post periodically about http://www.wishadoo.org, especially when it involves DUers, with this required disclaimer: "The administrators of Democratic Underground have given permission for one discussion thread on this topic. The administrators of Democratic Underground make no claims regarding the legitimacy or illegitimacy of this fundraising effort. Permission was granted by Skinner on 8/6/2010, and the moderators have been notified."
If you're not familiar with Wishadoo, please see my journal for previous posts. I respectfully ask that if you have concerns about the veracity of a DUer's request that you contact me privately. If you disagree with and dislike a DUer for any number of reasons and feel they may not be worthy of others' attention or assistance, please keep that to yourself. It has no place in these OPs. Thanks in advance for honoring that request.

I'm in the middle of a personal crisis of my own and don't have the time or energy to do a proper post with background info on each person's needs, but DUers are writing, expressing how they're in dire straits, so I'm doing the best I can with this OP. Please forgive my brevity.
I'd really appreciate it if you'd recommend and help keep this kicked. Write the DUer in question, here at DU or at Wishadoo if you have questions, recommendations/suggestions, want verification of some sort (remember, Wishadoo is about one-on-one, I'm just providing the platform), etc.
They're listed below in order of the most recent Wishlist post, with their DU name given; not every post at Wishadoo is from a DUer. If/when I can, I may figure out a way to flag Wishlist posts that are from DUers, rather than have to do these OPs which break it down; instead, I can post simply to remind people to please visit and view Wishadoo's Wishlist.

Sorry if this is messy or inconvenient. I won't have time to help keep it kicked much. I'll ask the DUers to please keep me updated so I can try to update their Wishlist posts and fundraising widget accordingly.
If I've missed anyone not listed in this 9/8 post or the 8/27 post, please message me.

* Recommend this thread and keep it kicked for visibility.
* Please scan the Wishlist in general on a regular basis; some posts are simply asking for information. It's not always about money.
* ACKNOWLEDGE these courageous people who have made themselves vulnerable by asking for help. Please offer whatever support you can (information, advice, well wishes, financial or other support, etc.)
* Share Wishadoo! with others (online and in person)...your friends, loved ones, neighbors, co-workers, other networks and organizations; after all, the more who gather...
THERE ARE TOO MANY PEOPLE IN NEED, HERE AT DU ALONE, THAN PEOPLE WITH RESOURCES TO HELP. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO EXPAND THE WISHADOO COMMUNITY.

ABOUT WISHADOO!: Anyone is welcome to use the tools at Wishadoo, so long as the Terms of Service are adhered to (basically "play nice" and don't lie). Wishadoo! is a comprehensive portal providing tools, resources and inspiration to connect, help/be helped, and cultivate compassion, cooperation and authentic community in myriad ways, online and in our own "backyards." Wishadoo!'s tools have been designed to integrate and be of service to all sectors of community: individuals, neighborhoods, schools, organizations and businesses.
Any contributions to Wishadoo! itself go toward the cost of maintaining the site, NOT toward any Wishlist posts. That takes place one on one, between Wishadoo! members. If you are able to help with costs to keep the site going, I'd appreciate your generosity tremendously and will be forever indebted.

(3,509 posts)To be blunt, what we need is donations. DU has over 200,000 members and if just 10% of them would donate to everyone on the OGR list (including me) we could meet our fundraising goals.
I personally have to pay out $295.00 for my truck insurance by October 1st, and then I have to pay out a $1.000 between October 1st and October 15th, just to cover my bills for September and October.
I filed for SSI in December of 2012 with a law firm called Myler Disability. They ruled in June and denied me, so we decided to appeal it, and they tell me they hope to have a decision on the appeal by November. I also filed for Public Aid, and I am still waiting for a ruling on that, when I call it just says my case is pending.
By law they are supposed to have a ruling within 30 days, and I have been waiting 3 months with no ruling yet. I have a $1.000 a month in bills and all I get is $200.00 a month in food stamps. So I need to raise $1.300 just to get to November, where I hope to have a ruling on my SSI appeal claim.
That means I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, with no income and almost no money to pay my bills while I wait for the appeal decision on my SSI and the ruling on my public aid. So what we need is for people to make donations, my goal is $2.000 and I raised $1.000, then the donations stopped.
So please make some donations to the people on the OGR list, we really need it, just to survive for a month or two.
My paypal is oreillyspins@yahoo.com and you can also visit my website and make a donation through my donation page:
http://www.oreilly-sucks.com/donate.htm
Thank you,
Steve

I don't know how to change that. I've tried everything over the years.

(8,142 posts)Or lower the insurance. While I was out of work waiting on my disability to be approved I lowered the insurance on my car to just liability and raised the deductible. Now that I am recieving it I have changed it back.

(3,509 posts)I got 2 donations today, 1 for $20.00 and 1 for $10.00.
I'm thinking some people see these type of postings and think because of all the members here plenty of donations are being made. Which is sometimes not true, people think of it like this, with 200,000 members they are getting all kinds of donatios so I do not need to make a donation myself.
When people should look at it like this, in case nobody is donating I will make a donation.
The posting I made 10 days ago asking for help had thousands of views, and out of that I had about 8 donations for a total of $1.000. So a lot of people looked at the posting, while very few actually donated.
I am very glad they did make a donation, and I do not want to sound ungrateful, but it's not a great percentage for how many members we have here.

(3,509 posts)I got another donation today for $25.00, which helps, but I am still about $1.200 short of my goal.
And btw folks, I own and run www.oreilly-sucks.com, which has the #1 Google ranking for Bill O'Reilly and O'Reilly Sucks, and I get about 30,000 unique hits every month, so if anyone is interested in buying an ad spot on the website contact me at:
oreillyspins@yahoo.com
I currently do not have an ad in the primary ad spot, which is the top/center on the main page. I also sell ads in other places on the website. So if anyone wants an ad, I will give you a great deal.

(3,251 posts)I want to thank everybody for their generosity. It is much appreciated. The money has helped tide me over the past six weeks since the school year has just started in Oregon and I have just started working. I won't receive any paychecks until the last week of this month.

(22,920 posts)I've noticed people ask for updates on fundraisers.
Since there are multiple Wishlist posts involved, PLEASE VISIT THE INDIVIDUAL WISHLIST POSTS (links are given in the original post here), WHERE THERE ARE FUNDRAISING "WIDGETS" for each one. These widgets show the progress of the fundraiser.
The widget updates automatically if it is used for the donation. DUers who created the Wishlist posts are giving me periodic updates -- since sometimes people mail donations or don't use the widget -- of total amount received, and I manually update the widget to reflect it as often as I can.
If Wishadoo is going to continue to have so many individual fundraisers (remember, I didn't set it up to be a fundraising site), I'm going to see if I can get a quote on modifying the Wishlist section of the site to have tools and features similar to fundraising platforms, to make this process easier on all concerned.
It often takes a couple of days to get the PayPal button/widget situated, so if you happen to peruse the Wishlist and don't see a way to contribute (and, remember, not everyone there is a DUer), it's because I haven't received the information yet to set it up. I may make it so Wishlist posts aren't visible until the payment method is set up, to avoid confusion. But, in the past people have been kind to reach out and offer support right away, even on brand new Wishlist posts, so I'll have to think about this some more.
Anyway, sorry if this is confusing to anyone. Thanks for your patience.
