(Wyoming) Doomsday bill moves forward, minus the aircraft carrier

http://trib.com/news/state-and-regional/doomsday-bill-moves-forward-minus-the-aircraft-carrier/article_00916968-6171-11e1-a45b-0019bb2963f4.html

CHEYENNE—The Wyoming House of Representatives on Monday advanced legislation to launch a study into what Wyoming should do in the event of a complete economic or political collapse in the United States.

Before passing House Bill 85 by a voice vote on second reading, lawmakers struck out language directing the task force to study Wyoming instituting its own military draft, raising a standing army, and acquiring strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier.

The bill would create a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.

The task force also would look at the feasibility of Wyoming issuing its own alternative currency, if needed.

So if they pass this bill, when ever they have an event, don't call FEMA or ask for federal $$.

Wyoming? I was unaware of a survivalist party taking over the state government. I thought they all were hanging out in Idaho.

I suspect we'll start seeing every State that has a Republican majority start focusing on the irrelevant as a way not to focus on doing the job they were elected for...dealing with the present reality.

On edit - It also provides a way of conveying the message of a State's Rights agenda without actually promoting sedition.

But with the national debt exceeding $15 trillion and protest movements growing around the country, Miller said Wyoming — which has a comparatively good economy and sound state finances — needs to make sure it’s protected should any unexpected emergency hit the U.S.

disasters happened FEMA would be part of the collapse and all planning woudl be local maybe even more local than the state level. To have some kind of idea of how we would keep the needed services such as medical care going would not be a bad idea.

Yes, the idea is being driven by survivalist whackballs, but, minus the aircraft carrier, the idea of planning for civic and economic collapse is actually pretty sane. Of course, the hope is that after these details have been worked out the plans are put onto a shelf somewhere.

Of course, this might actually be a prelude to secession, but I don't see secession starting from the mountain states. The Deep South, yes (South Carolina I believe will have that particular honor), but not Wyoming. However, in the event that Washington was hit by a nuclear bomb (a very unsettling thought, as I live in Annapolis) having such contingency plans may prove very useful.

I still would like to know where they're planning on porting the aircraft carrier, however.

CHEYENNE—The Wyoming House of Representatives on Tuesday narrowly voted down legislation to launch a study into what the state should do in the event of a complete economic or political collapse in the United States.

House Bill 85, which has received national media attention in recent days, was rejected 30-27 in a final House vote.

The bill would have created a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.

The task force also would have looked at the feasibility of Wyoming issuing its own alternative currency, if needed.
