America's 12 dirtiest cities

These cities suffer from high levels of ozone, sulfur dioxide, air-borne particulates and tap water so polluted you can't (or shouldn't) drink it. This is the harsh, lung-searing, rash-inducing reality for millions of people in some of America's biggest cities. Is your town on the list?

has taken a day trip to Provincetown from Boston and has seen that thick pinkish-grey cloud of too many drivers in too small a space from a distance.

In the city, distances are short and you don't tend to notice it except when you blow your nose, everything comes out black.

I'll stack that vileness up against San Jose, any old day.
