A key Senate committee vote on the use of force against Syria is running into trouble, despite a bipartisan proposal that would greatly curtail President Obama's authority to wage an "open-ended war."
Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., the lead Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Wednesday that he's working to allay senators' concerns about the wording of the resolution, but the committee's work may stretch "over the weekend."
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who said Monday after a meeting at the White House that he supported military action against Syria, said Wednesday that he does not support the committee's draft language.
McCain said Wednesday that he is objecting to the language of the resolution because it does not go far enough in requiring support of the Syrian opposition. McCain said the resolution should be clear that the U.S. goal is "reversing battlefield momentum" away from the government and in favor of the opposition. He said that because the president has agreed that Syrian President Bashar Assad "must go," this language should not be controversial.

(53,339 posts)Only 3 Republicans voted for it--including McCain. According to CNN, McCain got some language added about stopping the momentum of Assad.

(3,871 posts)must go on. McCain's playing poker on one of his toys showed me this was a "slam dunk" in that we will not, never had, any vote on this whatsoever. It's all for show, the decision has been made and they can all go to hell as far as I'm concerned. That most definitely includes the President.
