8. I disagree that it's a "deathfest."

There is no justice to be had in this case, nor is there an appropriate punishment. Some crimes are just too monstrous. They put one beyond the pale of humanity.

The grim satisfaction that this person is no longer on the planet is an expression of the idea that some people just do not belong on the planet.

I'm not "happy" that he is dead. I'm just...nothing. He didn't belong on the planet because he was a monster.

9. I saw a comment that was somewhat disturbing, and I have to wonder if

it wasn't a bit masturbatory, too. To wish that someone could be sentenced to 10K years, and then given life saving technology so they could be kept alive for that period of time to get the full benefit of the suffering, is a "deathfest", IMO.

It's okay to not feel sorry for Castro, and not care if he's dead. I don't spend time thinking about him much at all. But the kinds of comments that have already turned up are a bit disturbing. When you fight with monsters, and gaze into the abyss, etc. etc.

10. The urge to punish is strong

It is difficult, perhaps impossible, to transcend, especially with crimes of this nature and magnitude.

I don't hold with those who favor hyperbolic punishment and torture. It just makes me sad that the thing that rushes to fill the void left by justice is more suffering, deserved or not.

This is why I can't be seated on a jury.

I wanted him to experience role reversal. Although, prison is much more humane that what he did to the children. Yes, I agree with the group consensus.

for the ten years he raped and tortured those women. Only when the fucker is locked up for life (the way he locked them up) did his sickness lead to suicide. Every fucking Sunday after he tied them up he headed to church - sick my ass.

There are way too many real victims on this planet for me to mourn this scumbag - fuck that fucking fucker.
