(27,247 posts)but Russia has lots of other factors that contribute to its dangerous driving conditions, including
1) Russians have only been able to own cars in large numbers for around 20 years or so.
2) Drivers licenses can be easily obtained without even taking a test.
3) Russian drivers tend to have a bad attitude about sharing (or not) the road.
4) Cars in Russia are among the world's shoddiest. There is inadequate attention paid to quality control in Russian assembly plants, with the result being that even new cars straight out of the factory are like used cars before they're even driven.

(12,693 posts)It makes for good video, but it almost seems like there is a correlation between dash-cams and crashes.

(16,191 posts)Russia has a serious problem with insurance fraud. People throwing their cars into reverse, backing into the people behind them, and then claiming to be rearended. People throwing themselves onto car hoods claiming to have been hit, that sort of thing.
Most Russian insurance companies grew so tired of it that they started offering steep rate discounts to cars with cams, and some simply refuse to cover accidents that occur when the camera isn't running. You aren't required to have a dashcam, but people without them pay significantly more for their insurance coverage.
