(5,417 posts)If even one member request a division of the assembly, then they are required to do it. That will mean that people who vote yes must rise, then people who vote no must rise.
If that happens, then it wouldn't be too difficult for a political expert (or each member of DU checking their member) to see who rises for which vote. Everything today is recorded by Cspan, so a screen shot could easily be taken, and somebody with a bit too much time on their hands could figure it out. I imagine a major newspaper would do the legwork for a story.
It only takes 1/5 of the members to require a written vote, which is recorded, and I imagine this is a decisive issue.
Voice votes are nice on easy issues that are passed with near 100% support, this will not be one of them.
