I agree. I HATED IT when they sent around that email showing watermelons on Bush's White House lawn, and Bush eating fried chicken, and Bush dressed like a pimp, and when Limbaugh sang that song "Bush The Magic Negro."
CAIN!
This weekend, Nation of Islam anachronism Louis Farrakhan did his thing for more than three hours in Chicago, blaming America for 9/11 and warning that assassins are out to get President Obama. It didnt take long for Sean Hannity to play Six Degrees of Jeremiah Wright with the story, noting that Wright had been photographed with Farrakhan and Sacha Baron Cohen spirit animal Muammar Gaddafi, and had also been photographed with First Lady Michelle Obama. What say you, Herman Cain?
Cain did not believe that Hannity was wrong in connecting the dots from Farrakhan to the White House, and had no surprise about what Farrakhan was up to. If Farrakhan cannot divide people with accusations then he has no message and no platform. He also rebuked Farrakhans claim that the disrespect against President Obama was greater than for any President before him, referring the audience to the Media Research Center for every epithet hurled at Bush during the first decade of this century.
The conversation returned again to the 9/11 accusations, and Hannity made the point that the sort of exoneration of Osama Bin Laden Farrakhan promoted was, in fact, being promoted, something that didnt seem to phase Cain given free speech. Sure, Farrakhan can say the CIA attacked the World Trade Center, he joked, and Im Santa Claus! I can say anything!

(30,885 posts)Commander Cokespoon, Admiral Asshat, Bunnypants, Lil' Boots, Commander Codpiece, the list is endless.
But it's the racist tone of the Obama attacks that puts him at the top of the "most disrespected" list. DU attacked Bush's behavior. The right wingers are attacking the color of Barack Obama's skin. Big difference.

(26,505 posts)fingers in his face? This is not comparable by a long shot. What a bunch of us say on the web gets nowhere near the official level of disrespect directed at Mr. Obama. Boner called his last SOTU ''pathetic'' before it even took place. And on and on.

(10,942 posts)Once a person is elected President, we need to support that person, even as we stand in unyielding opposition to him or her. Dialogue relative to our Presidents has become beyond toxic. Nixon deserved the bile sent his way given his actions. But, Gerald Ford was a decent person that was required to step into a void. Yet Ford was ridiculed by his harshest critics. Jimmy Carter was a good person who I view as one of our best Presidents. Had the nation listened to Carter, it would have already saved tens of trillions of dollars on energy spending, avoided several economic shocks and not be required to use military force to put out every fight around the world. Carter was savaged by his critics, even as he made some of the boldest and most important decisions of his time. I disagreed with Reagan soundly as a newly minted adult and voted for the other candidate both times, but I never forgot that during his terms he was my President. The savaging of Clinton still stinks to this day. Clinton's opponents tried to deny his very legitimacy, as they now try with President Obama. I vastly disagreed with Bush I and Bush II, but during their terms, they were my President, even as I voted for their opponents on every turn and fought gainst their policies. It is one thing to be passionate about politics and what we think goverment should do, it is another to disrepect the Presidency. My undying opinion is that the Presidency is larger than the person that holds that office, but the person is the living embodiment of that office and as such, should be accorded respect, even as one disagree with policy and fight to the last fiber of muscle against application of those policies.

(15,064 posts)As far as I'm concerned America was without a President for 8 years.
I also don't give a good damn what Herman the fornicating adulterer says.

(20,888 posts)He once had like 90% approval. You don't get that if Dems aren't respecting him. Had Bush done a great job and Democrats still disrespected him Cain would have a point. However Bush lost our respect. He had very limited positive success in his two terms in office. He started two pointless wars, totally failed national security on 9/11, crashed the economy twice, did nothing to curb domestic oil dependency, ... Bush left office with way lower popularity than Obama has. You think he might have EARNED that lack of respect?
They hate Obama from day one for total fantasy things that never happened like his communist post colonial Kenyan death panel policies. I mean if you don't understand the difference then you must believe Obama is an elitist because he thinks Americans do want their children to go to college. I mean he fucking killed Bin Laden and that was a negative story for these people. Dems on the other hand point to something like Bush giving money to help curb malaria in Africa and say I wish he did more of that because it was a good thing.
