As they are known to do, an apparent member of Code Pink -- the anti-war grassroots organization -- started shouting before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on military intervention in Syria began Tuesday afternoon.
"We can't afford to have another war! We need health care and education in our country!" the protestor said. "No more war in Syria!"
The protestor was promptly escorted out of the committee hearing room.

(549 posts)I have heard "Hands off Syria" is from the pro-Assad crowd. And what's with all the Syrian flags at the rallies? I'm against intervention but I believe Assad used the chemical weapons.

(23,484 posts)What's wrong with the phrase?
And what's wrong with the Syrian flag?

(9,002 posts)the antiwar rallies are made up of two factions: Syrians who support Assad & pacifists (not that they are mutually exclusive per se).
I'm guessing it's the same there in D.C.

and what truly astounds me, is how coherent and intelligent they think they are to have arrived to whatever rationale they have for being pacifists who support the murdering dictator, assad.
i met madea at an informal get together in sacramento a few years ago. she seemed rational at the time.

(94,703 posts)Is that the principle you want all policy-making bodies to follow?
And does it apply to everyone, or just protesters you agree with?

(75,480 posts)Code Pink represents a larger number of citizens than acknowledged. Polls suggest 50% of Americans are against our wars of interference instead of diplomatic solutions, yet they are never invited to the table. Interrupting meetings is what they must do. They should be given a seat at the war negotiating table.
SOS Kerry should put his money where his mouth is.

(67,782 posts)...countless times.
So, these people have disrupted a number of hearings over the years. Other than the vague "they raised the consciousness of the country" (which they really didn't), what have they accomplished other than earn the disdain of even those who do not want to take military action against Syria.
And since Americans have been talking "drawn lines" these days, where do we draw the line with regard to who one who is testifying suggests to the chair be allowed to speak? Why chose him over anyone else with any other viewpoint who interrupts a formal proceeding?

I suppose we yanks don't have the courtesy you Canadians are famous for, but we the people can't afford it. We have to be rude and disruptive to be heard.

(67,782 posts)So, answer the question, what did the two disrupters accomplish today?
Cleita
(75,480 posts)They accomplished what they set out to and that is to draw attention to the fact that there is an anti war movement out there and our reps need to pay attention.

(67,782 posts)...if that is what they set out to do, they have pretty meager goals.
