We're constantly being told that we can't afford shit when it comes to the well being of our citizens. We even have Democrats talking about how to cut some aspects of Social Security and Medicare.
We're told that there is no more meat and further cuts are into bone.
So, what do we have to give up so we can get our war on?
Suggestions?

That way, the Army would take care of them, the houses could be rented out to real Americans and let all that saved money

(3,539 posts)Aren't we gearing up for our annual debt ceiling war? You remember, the new traditional war where republicans threaten to shut down the government, default on the national debt and in general raise all hell if they can't bring U.S living conditions closer to that of a third world country.
Meanwhile we will be spending a fortune punishing Syria for killing civilians by killing civilians in Syria.
All that paid for by borrowing money from China. China who along with the Russians will be angry with us because we are punishing Syria for killing civilians by killing civilians in Syria.
I get it now.
Our current government policy is written by the Onion.

(37,364 posts)a couple of weapons systems and a general or two, and throw in some sweet heart contracts with Blackwater or whatever its called now. With all the warrin' there's plenty of fat in the side of the budget they pretend doesn't exist.
How many homeless families could be housed in the Pentagon, if we emptied out the leeches currently inhabiting it?

(12,151 posts)Before the war, there is the War Tax. Not born by the middle or working classes, who generally have to fight the damn things, but by the wealthy, whose kids will never be put at risk.
Every individual making over $1 million per year; every corporation with over $10 million in profits, to bear equally, on a quarterly basis, 100% of the actual costs of material and the estimated costs of future care of any veterans, as well as any planned "nation building" projects in the region.

(48,121 posts)We are already paying for the ships to be at sea, for the people on them, the food, etc and so on.
Cruise missiles and bombs generally have a shelf life and would either be used in practice or retired and replaced anyway.
If we called up reserves and have to change pay structure for combat pay etc that would be an additional cost.
I am not saying it won't cost anything, but for those who are saying it does do you have a breakdown of those costs that fall outside the normal day to day costs?

Whenever evil dictators pop up, we can fight for free, besides think of the oil revenue! I heard it will pay for this one the same way it paid for Iraq the last time you Eagles (sounds more noble than chicken hawks) were itchin' to get your war on. Just let the eagle soar!!! Freedom isn't free but bombs are!!!
Why I doubt it will last one hour, one day, possibly even one week but will be over quickly and pay for itself!
I will be so excited when I see you in your new uniform.
