DeMint exposes himself

I looked a good ways back to see if this subject had already been posted - didn't find anything - so please excuse me if I missed it. The first 2 paragraphs read thus:
.........................................................................................................

"Heritage Foundation president and former Senator Jim DeMint suggested to a town hall audience in Wilmington, Delaware Thursday that health care programs like Medicare and Medicaid are “un-American” and built on the principles of “socialism and collectivism.”

“I cannot think of anything that’s more un-American than national government-run health care,” DeMint said. “Those who believe in those principles of socialism and collectivism we’ve seen over the centuries, they see as their holy grail taking control of the health care system.”

read more:

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/08/30/2555561/jim-demint-programs-like-medicare-veterans-health-care-american-grounded-socialism/
........................................................................................................

So - does that go for veterans also, since government deals as directly as possible with the consequences of their hazardous service? Certainly sounds like DeMint took a broad brush to everything that government touches regarding healthcare.

I HAVE TO WONDER IF THAT SOB HAS RENOUNCED HIS OWN GOVERNMENT-PROVIDED HEALTHCARE?

Yeah, right. When hell freezes over.

More and more the hypocritical Repugs let their mask slip to reveal the ugliest rot on the face of the earth. Except I begin to wonder also to what degree they remain hypocritical since lately they seem to glory in their pure evil. Mistake it not for something less.

That Reagan quotation that Sarah Palin used in the 2008 Vice-Presidential debate was about his opposition to Medicare.

One of these days, you and I, are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it once was like in America, when men were free.

Although Palin of course omitted the context, it was from a Reagan advocacy ad urging the defeat of this socialistic "Medicare" proposal. Story here courtesy of ThinkProgress.

Republicans are starting to realize that Jim DeMint's “Defund Obamacare” campaign is all about funding his empire

(snip)
the rising volume of grumbling about former Sen. Jim DeMint’s destructive grifting shows that some in the party recognize that his “Defund Obamacare” campaign is more about funding his empire than real political change.
(snip)
DeMint and his “Defund Obamacare” touring partner Cruz are peddling political poison to the GOP. As Republican pollster Whit Ayers told Michelle Cottle: “Shutting down the government in an effort to defund is the one way Republicans can turn Obamacare from a major plus to a major minus in the 2014 elections.” But they don’t care. Cruz is building his donor list for a potential 2016 run from the far right, while DeMint, gone from the Senate, pretends he’s going to be Senate kingmaker from his swank office at the Heritage Foundation.

  • Kill-at-will laws and the celebration by some morons of the murder of a black teenager at the hands of a redneck thug.
  • Organized hate toward racial, religious or sexual minorities.
  • Willfully lying about public issues in a public forum, such as global warming denial, citing non-existant WMDs or non-existant ties to terrorists as a reason to invade a foreign country, talk of "death panels" in the national health debate or, and this one is directed at Mr. DeMint and the Heritage Foundation, cooking statistics in cause of political propaganda.
  • Allowing large corporations to go unregulated and steal from their customers.
  • Declaring corporations to be human beings for the purpose of allowing them to enjoy not equal rights but supremacy over real human beings.
  • Busing brownshirts to town hall meetings for the purpose of disrupting a public forum.
  • Imperialist wars, even though we've been fighting them since 1846.
  • Suppressing the right of workers to organize.
  • Routine government spying on US citizens without any probable cause.

And Socialism is evil. Ronald Reagan proved that when he single-handedly defeated the Soviet Union (aka The Evil Empire).

You can look that up in your "Revised American History According to Republicans." You know, the one that says the causes of the Great Depression and the Great Recession are due to events that "no one could have foreseen," and may somehow have something to do with excessive regulations, certainly not the removal and lax enforcement of financial regulations preceding both events. Besides, only poor people (and working people) suffered during those economic downturns. All the important people did just fine. Government taking any action to help those suffering poor people? Socialism!

53. There are few things more representative of collectivism than corporations
Mon Sep 2, 2013, 08:11 PM
Sep 2013

The idea that American capitalism is based solely on free market ideas is nothing more than an illusion created by the right. The lion's share of business conducted in the US is performed by corporations and the lion's share of that is performed by large corporations. Large corporations dominate the US stock market and are responsible for the vast majority of the total volume of all the major US exchanges. That's why the Dow Jones Industrial average (composed of only 30 corporations) represents the US stock market as a whole as effectively as it does.

Fundamentally there is no difference between collectivism perpetuated by the government and collectivism perpetuated by corporations. Both have the intent of benefiting the members of the collective. The only significant inherent difference is membership in one is more or less mandatory, but so what? The only people who stand to lose (or at least derive little benefit) are the uber rich, who really don't contribute a significant portion of their income to Medicare or Social Security in the first place. Furthermore even the largest corporations have proven to be far more corruptible than the government and the idea that non-government entities do things better and more efficiently than the government is nothing more than pure myth. The exact opposite is far closer to reality.

So now we are to believe Jim DeMint and the Heritage Foundation who derive almost all their money from the largest corporations when they tell us that these same collectivist corporations are greatly preferable to government collectivism when they have far less accountability and zero incentive to benefit anyone other than their shareholders, board members, and senior executives.

Fuck Jim DeMint and the horse he rode in on. Compared to his collectivist vision I'll take government collectivism every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

55. Ah. The old Americanism=Capitalism argument.
Mon Sep 2, 2013, 10:43 PM
Sep 2013

Got news for you, DeMint. Capitalism was in its infancy when America became a country. The dominant economic system of the time was mercantilism, if you really wanna know. And there is absolutely NOTHING unAmerican about socialism or collectivism or the very idea of coming together for the common good, or the common wealth.

That's really what won World War II, you know. The whole commonweal thing. Everybody pitch in. Rosie the Riveter. Government Issue troops. You know, like that.

It was only after World War II that capitalists successfully equated capitalism with Americanism, and then only after a decades-long campaign culminating in Reagan and his successors. Most unfortunately for this son of New Deal Democrats, they include Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, neither of whom come anywhere near the standards set by FDR.

Medicare and Medicaid were established by LBJ in his attempt to eliminate poverty. According to DeMint, eliminating poverty is Unamerican. Of course, capitalism isn't as profitable without desperately poor people to exploit, so the very idea that there should be no poverty is what Jim DeMint finds so repulsive. Medicare and Medicaid make people less desperate, and therefore less exploitable, and therefore are anti-capitalistic, which to DeMint is anti-American.

Anti-YOUR America, DeMint. Not mine.
