GUILTY: Teen convicted in baby shooting

GUILTY: Teen convicted in baby shooting

- A Georgia jury convicted De’Marquise Elkins, 18, of murder for shooting and killing 13-month-old Antonio Santiago

- Baby Santiago was shot in the broad daylight on the streets of Brunswick, Georgia March 21

After deliberating for nearly two hours, a Georgia jury found 18-year-old De’Marquise Elkins guilty Friday of multiple charges, including felony murder, for shooting and killing 13-month-old Antonio Santiago during a robbery.

Elkins was also convicted of aggravated assault and other charges for shooting pastor Wilfredo Calix-Flores during a separate mugging 10 days before baby Santiago was shot.

His mother Karimah Elkins, who was tried along with her son, was convicted of tampering with evidence for her role in trying to cover up the shooting.

Both Elkins and his mother showed no sign of any emotion as the verdict was read. They sat silently, staring straight ahead as they have throughout the entire trial.

What looked like another easy victim, a mother and baby, Money-Ville moved in on his prey. Enraged they had nothing to give he took what he couldn’t use, the life of the baby. This elevated him from mamas little Robin Hood to hardened criminal. Even the code of don’t snitch couldn’t protect him. Oh the family tried to pull together, big sis dumped the gun, Aunt Katrina even offered an alibi. Auntie might be good at shoplifting and identity theft but offering an alibi for a killer to the police who had you in custody at the time of the murder isn’t smart or prudent.

Sometimes things just don’t work out like you plan. You try your best to instill your values and morals in the children you will eventually leave behind. If you teach them to play with fire there is a good chance they will get burned.

I'm so happy this thug who claimed membership in the Bloods street gang was convicted. I hope he gets life in prison for killing that innocent little baby; shooting him in the face while his poor mother tried desperately to stop him. If he were 18, he might have received the death penalty and that would have been just fine by me.

and could not receive the death penalty. He deserves it. But I think his time in prison will be hell because even most hardened criminals do not condone child cruelty much less murdering a baby.

He faces life in prison, not a term in a juvenile facility. State law and Supreme court ruling prohibit the death penalty. A life sentence is possible, not sure if parole is allowed.

Hopefully some of the DUers whose "bullshit meters" and "something smells fishy about the mother" comments will show up in this thread to admit that they were wrong.

I'm not holding my breath.

Mom and dad did it. It was for the insurance.

The racist skinhead neo-Nazi police chief grabbed the first young black teens he could find.

There was a microscopic bit of gunshot residue on the dad.

Lang was bullied and badgered and had promises made in exchange for his perjury.

The gun found was not THE gun.

If she was really being robbed, she would have given up her purse to save her baby.

Am I missing any of the "Sherry West Truthers" points?

Lang appeared nervous and disoriented as he climbed to the witness stand.
Most of his answers were one or two words until he described the events of March 21. He said he and Elkins had been acquainted some time before that day but not close friends when they met up less than an hour before the shooting.

Lang said he was walking down Ellis Street toward his great-grandmother’s home, and Elkins was walking the same way when they came upon a woman, Sherry West, pushing Antonio in a stroller.

“He asked her for her purse,” Lang said. “… He kept asking for her purse. She kept refusing.”
Elkins then pulled a gun from his pocket and struck West with it and then threatened the baby with the gun, Lang told the court. The two then struggled around the stroller, Lang said, then Elkins shot the baby and then fired twice more, he said.

Testimony Tuesday showed that West was struck once in the leg and once on her left ear. The baby died instantly from a single pistol round between his eyebrows, a medical examiner testified.

The conviction happened Wednesday or Thursday, and every thread about it has quickly slipped quietly into the night with nary a peep after a few 100 reply threads claiming a vast conspiracy in this case throughout the summer.
