and we wonder why we are confused about Syria.....?

Former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani:

"The people have been the target of a chemical attack by their own government and now they must also wait for an attack by foreigners."

http://www.reuters.com/...

The Iranian news agency that reported this, later changed his quote.

The second version by the semi-official Iranian Labour News Agency reported him as saying on Sunday:

"On the one hand the people of Syria are the target of a chemical attack, and now they must wait for an attack by foreigners."

"so where is the truth
please......
???"

The Syrian version of drug-laced Nescafe.

Many of us who tracked what happened in Libya, noticed frequent reports from the Libyan state tv and gaddafi supporters that were later debunked as phoney. We also saw claims that the protests and killings were staged, usually they said they were staged in Qatar. We saw people claim gaddafi was a good socialist, a good leader, how far he had promoted women's rights, that he was no more criminal than our own US based CEOs (*snort*). The cia was behind everything and apparently behind every shrub in every city or small town in Libya. The Libyan people it seemed, were not the type to raise up in protest on their own.

Then of course there were the protestors' al quaeda connections that were on full display just after the protesters turned into rebels high off drug-laced Nescafe.

It was pretty easy for a lot of us to recognize the gaddafi supporters who suddenly weren't so distant in their observations. It was also pretty easy to see who was getting duped into believing gaddafi "wasn't" as bad as "the al quaeda led insurgents" said he was.

When on DU, if we pointed it out we were called warmongers and imperialists and that we were naive to think the US wouldn't exploit the situation for its own purposes. And that just like Iraq, we'd be sending a few battalions in as soon as gaddafi was gone/before gaddafi was gone/any second now/in two weeks/they're going in as this is being typed/the battleships are in place.

This whole debate reminds me of Libya.

You won't find truth. You can find facts, sometimes. You can find lies, quite frequently. Usually, you'll find kernels of fact mired in piles of lies that if you can extract them will lead to more piles that may or may not contain a kernel of a fact.

The hypocrisy of calling Saddam criminal for gassing the Kurds ( if he did indeed do that-opinions vary)
and yet we used chemical weapons in Iraq.

The hypocrisy of the US wanting to attack Syria based on evidence that has not been presented yet,
while we use pepper spray in the eyes and mouths of our own people who are not doing anything wrong
and KILL citizens with Tasers, not to mention the still continuing shooting dead of mostly black citizens
( altho the Hispanics seem to be getting a lot more lethal attention of late)

5. The US was founded on hypocrisy.

Slaves were determined to be 3/5ths human. Women frequently committed "tyranny of the petticoat" without having the franchise or claims to humanhood and Indians were "savages," "heathens," and other non-human types who had no right to their lands because they fought with each other (unlike the "peaceful Europeans&quot and "they" had no written deeds so "we" could take from "them" what "we" wanted.

"Might makes right." "Manifest Destiny." And all that rot.

Anyone who wasn't born white, male, hetero, politically connected, and/or monied learned this fairly early on in life. (There's a "religious" element in there that is far to complicated to address in a single post.)

The trick is to use the hypocrisy to benefit the "rest of us."
