A new book co-written by a former senior staffer on Michele Bachmanns presidential campaign alleges that the conservative congresswoman is a fake Christian diva who fires pregnant staffers on Christmas Eve and takes advantage of her devoted supporters, when not being taken advantage of by the political consultants she hired.
Published on Amazon for Kindle late last night, Bachmannnistan: Behind the Lines, a Report From the Inside bills itself as the explosive first tell all book about the secretive world of Michele Bachmann immoral, illegal and unethical.
It paints Peter Waldron, who was Bachmanns field coordinator and evangelical outreach lead (and who also happens to have co-written the book), as the nearly lone island of virtue in a sea of money-grubbing advisers and sinister politicians willing to break the law to get what they want. At the center is Bachmann, whom Bachmannistan portrays as alternatively clueless or cruel, but above all: Hard as nails, vicious, self-centered, phony, in it for herself.
The books other author, John Gilmore, says: This book is to the grassroots what This Town is to the political and consulting class. That sounds self-serving but Im not really trying to be. (The book is written in third person, which leads to some awkward moments of Waldron praising himself at one point he compares himself to Edward Snowden by writing things like, There was that series of dirty tricks he was ordered to undertake, and which he executed to brilliant effect with no fingerprints.)

(31,849 posts)I guess the Non-Disclosure Clause is being ignored.
The hot career path seems to be ... join a campaign/organization ... work there a year ... write a kiss and tell book.
But isn't that pretty short-sighted? If the book doesn't make you millions, no one in their right mind would give you a second chance by letting you any where near their organization.

(31,849 posts)completely corrupted the term "Whistle-blowing."
Writing a kiss and tell is not whistle-blowing ... "leaking" information is not whistle-blowing. Profiting on a K-n-T book or book contain the leak, is not whistle-blowing.

Just being within smelling range of Bachmann ought to make them tainted goods. This is probably their best chance of turning dogshit into ego fertilizer.

(31,849 posts)in this specific instance; but I was talking in a more generic sense.
Would you allow anyone any where near your organization, neighborhool watering hole, or even book of the month reading circle, knowing that person wrote a K-n-T book about the last group he/she was a part of?

(45,274 posts)But then I hope I would have the judgment to avoid fuckheads like these BEFORE the KnT.
Bachmann is a despicable piece of narcissistic psychopathy, and like attracts like.

(18,628 posts)It sounds like a totally biased book written by disgruntled associates designed to bury her political career once and for all, and it couldn't happen to a nicer gal.
By that, I mean in the same way one speaks in a satirical style about someone who deserves it. I hope they take down that phoney baloney, holy roller, send-God's-money Marcus Bachmann too.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,693 posts)and I downloaded the thing (I can get the free Kindle "borrow" deal). As a Minnesota resident, though not the 6th CD, I have had a horrified fascination with Bachmann and her bizarre antics for a long time. So I had to read this.
It's very poorly written - these guys needed an editor in the worst way - but it's an interesting little piece in several ways. Throughout the book they can't seem to make up their minds whether Bachmann is a clueless fool with genuine religious beliefs or a cynical, power-mad harpy. But they absolutely sputter with outrage at the mere suggestion that Marcus could be (gasp!) gay. Quelle horreur! There were a lot of nasty digs at the evil, Godless liberals all through the book. What really stood out, though, was the extent to which the evangelicals and their beliefs and demands controlled the campaign, including the actions of these authors. The entire campaign was aimed almost exclusively at the Bible-bangers, and almost everything they did took place in or was associated with evangelical churches. That was the disturbing part - it illustrated how deeply the evangelical movement has infiltrated politics. These are scary people.
I think the authors of this weird little book turned on Bachmann because they didn't think she was pure enough.

(12,629 posts)"To be completely blunt; this is the worst book I have ever read. That says a lot since I'm a voracious reader and I go through 2-3 books a week. I learned to read 50 years ago so that's a LOT of books! I have seen better writing from seventh graders. Peter Waldron needs a ghost writer, BAD!
If you are a Michele Bachmann fan you will hate this book because it dishes out dirt on her failed presidential campaign.
If you are not a Michele Bachmann fan you will hate this book because it tells almost nothing that isn't already out in the public domain.
If you are a book lover you will hate yourself for blowing the small amount of money you paid for this book.
The only positive thing I can say about "Bachmannistan" is that since it is an e-book. No trees were harmed printing this waste of time on paper."

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,693 posts)Even free, it was overpriced. The writing was really terrible, and the authors were on an ego trip of their own. But still, it was interesting to read about the delusional actions of Bachmann and the authors of the book (Pot, meet Kettle) and the extent to which the evangelicals control GOP/teabagger politicians.
