Israelis Warn Decision To Delay Syria Strike Will Be Seen As Weakness

By Edmund Sanders
August 31, 2013, 1:41 p.m.

JERUSALEM – Israelis reacted warily Saturday to the Obama administration’s decision to delay a strike against Syria, warning the move would likely be seen in the region as a sign of weakness.

Officials and pundits were particularly worried about how the delay would be interpreted in Iran, which is facing U.S. pressure to halt its nuclear development program, which the U.S. and Israel believe is aimed at building nuclear weapons.

Iran will see the U.S. as a “paper tiger,’’ said analyst Zvi Yehezkeli of Israel’s Channel 10.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued no formal reaction Saturday night.

But some predicted Obama’s hesitation would cause many in Israel to doubt the U.S. promise to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. The U.S. has urged Israel – which is believed to possess the region’s only nuclear weapons – to refrain from attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities and leave the job to America’s military, if necessary.

Other nations will have a few public things to say that will jar people back to the present. This isn't 2003. There will be a whole lot said in private.

Every intervention and war we fight is at their bidding. Granted, this "coincidentally" benefits the MIC and oil interests so it should be of no surprise.

We have no power as citizens anymore. We are ruled by corporations and foreign governments.

and I'm sick of Sick. Of. It. You just added reason 1001 to 1000 reasons I have for staying away from Syria.

This time we're getting a chance. We should scream NO! NO! NO! to our congresscritters as loudly as we can. Who knows? Maybe we can avoid the nest of viper traps that is Syria. I'm not giving up hope yet.

It means we're thinking his through.

If you want to go at war with Syria, be my guest, just make sure my family has a first class ticket plus $2.5 million in cash (for reimbursment of loss of house, clothes, materials) on the way back to the United States from Efrat.

I mean , the attack was supposed to be against whoever is terrorizing the civilians of Siria. Nothing to do with Israel.

Why are they so eager for US to attack Siria? What is it to them?

This is war we are talking about and the more debate the better. Sometimes grown adults really do act like children.

but fuck Israel...I wish that blight would sink or swim on its own. I am sick of what it has done to Palestinian children, of its instigating trouble, of my tax dollars supporting its very existence while stateside, things go to hell. The US did not have problems in the ME before 1948!
