Does anyone find that somewhat strange, since Valerie Jarrett is simply a friend of Obama’s (and NOT an elected official)? Does anyone think there might be something seriously wrong with this?

She's a 'White House Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Relations and Public Liaison.'

...y'know, the president for whom death threats have skyrocketed. She also gets tossed around the RWNJ blovosphere as one of the people who "calls the shots" in the administration.

Her Wikipedia page mentions it; the source is a NYTimes article, but their site is having some difficulties of late so I wasn't able to see what the source said.

7. It is unusual for a White House staff member

to have their own SS detail. That is probably why an opponent of the Obama Administration would have a problem with it. Ms. Jarrett does seem to have great power in the White House.
