I love the olympics and what it represents, but the productions have grown into such massive operations that hosting the olympics crushes the economy of the host. In some times and places there have been abundant resources, such that massive expenditures were a stimulus to activity rather than a drain, but I think Beijing, which built the most massive production yet and coincided with the bubble-and-bust of the last great recession, was a significant inflexion point in the economies of global resources.

I'd definitely be in favor of a permanent home for the olympics somewhere. Why not Greece?

I think it would be a good thing long term. At least maybe they'll fix the god damned metro.

This is not the first bid either. Within a 60 mile radius of DC there are venues and places for venues which would be a big help to the communities.

2 weeks of supertourist? Small price to pay.

of chasing out the homeless, and other assualts on the marginalized people in the area.

Not as bad as ...Ireland??? which glued pics of faux storefronts on deserted stores to hide the lack of
thriving small businesses.

Daley would have probably leased Lake Michigan and the Loop to finance it.
