What is Love? (tears)

[IMG][/IMG]

A father and mother kissing their dying little girl goodbye. If you are wondering why all the medic people are bowing: in less than an hour, two small children in the next room are able to live thanks to the little girl's kidney and liver.

But doctors and their supporting medical staff who specialize in pediatric fields where the passing of children is common....are saints in my eyes. I have no idea how they do it. I can say they have more character than I do.

I can't stand to watch this stuff.

made me sad, but I burst into tears at the picture of the medical staff giving a visible sign of respect to the dying child and the generous parents who donated the little girl's kidney and liver.

people who got them. It is hard and yes the hospital staff were very helpful and caring. Some times there is nothing you can do for your own child but you can help others and it is worth it.

My heart goes out to those who manage to look past their own grief and give such a precious gift to others.

I signed my first organ donor card on my 18th birthday (gosh, going on 40 years ago, now), have been on the bone marrow list for several years, and am proud to say that my sons also signed up to be organ donors.

as the mother of a child who will one day need a liver. Aside from all of the other people I know who have the same disease as my daughter, I am also friends with the grandfather of a pre-school child who received a liver transplant shortly after birth. It is such a delight hearing the tales - and seeing the pictures - of this little one who would not be alive, but for the gift of someone like you (or the parents above).

You can, sometimes, make contact with the recipients after some time has passed. You might want to check and see if you could send letters to the recipients. I expect, when the time comes, we will leave the door open for contact.

Things like consideration, compassion, respect, integrity, honesty, generosity are no longer considered virtues worth pursuing in today's world. There are so many things about this situation that are just so sad and yet so beautiful. I can't imagine the pain those parents are feeling. And yet they had the compassion and generosity to offer part of their child so other children could live. And the fact that Asian countries still bow out of respect is just so cool to me.
