A small tidbit about that 51st state thing . . .

If you ever read Michener, his novel Centennial was written about the part of the state of Colorado where this present madness is taking place. He loved the area, and some years prior to WWII he taught at the college that would later become the University of Northern Colorado; the university library bears his name and houses the rather massive research materials for that book. Lately I've caught myself wondering how he would write about this particular escapade; no doubt he would render it with gleeful thoroughness, much to the chagrin of those persons upon whom his characters would be based.

Whole town stunk of cow shit.. Biggest Meat slaughter house in country directly in line with Greeley.
Man the guys who worked there would come into town at night and scare the shit out of College Townies. Moved to Denver...

Well, that meant nothing!!

Back then, the feedlots were north of town. They finally figured out which way the wind blows and moved the lots out east. We get an occasional whiff, but it's not the constant it was back in the day. At present, the overpowering stench emanates from the county commission . . .
