Just down the road from where I live, there is a teabagger who apparently thinks his yard is to be used primarily for broadcasting his half-informed, half-witted beliefs to the rest of the world. Every time there's a political issue that grabs his attention, he puts a sign in his yard for everyone to see. Now, he's done this so often that he's pretty much considered a neighborhood joke. The content is usually laughable, and half the time it's printed so small that you can't even read it driving by unless you slow down to a near-stop and then drive by several times. I've posted some of his funnier works on this board in the past. Suffice it to say, every time there's an election or a school levy that needs passing, he's right there leading the charge with his 4' x 8' sheet of plywood sign posted in his yard (I'm assuming he had the 4x4 posts that hold the sign up placed in his yard specially for this purpose).
Last week, a real gem showed up (I wish I could get a picture, but with the camera on my phone, it only comes out looking like a blur as I'm driving by). He painted the 4x8 sheet of plywood up to look like the "Don't Tread On Me" flag, and then just put phrases all over it. In the upper-left corner, it says the following (and I'll try to type it as it appears on the sign):
Common Core
is the complete Federal takeover of our
Local Education
And in the upper-right corner, it says this:
Teachers
Become collectors of data
Standards for Students
Dumb Down
Finally, at the very bottom (beneath the coiled snake, the big pay-off:
Taxation without Representation
is Tyranny!!!
This is what he felt SO impassioned by, that he figured he HAD to have a 4x8 sign in his yard addressing it. Every time I see it, I'm like, "WHAT???" Apparently some kind of change in the local school curriculum is now depriving him of his representation in government (because that's what "Taxation without representation" means). Last time I checked, we still had many different elected officials representing us in all levels of government, State, Local, AND Federal. Just because you don't like who some of them are or the job they're doing doesn't mean you're UNrepresented.
Also, when I Googled some of the terms he put on the sign, I immediately saw that his little screed was lifted almost directly from missives by Glenn Beck and Michelle Malkin, proving yet again that most right-wingers don't ever have an original thought. This guy is a real piece of work. This is the guy that every time there's a school levy on the ballot, he puts like 38,000 "Vote No" signs in his yard, as if the number of signs he puts up means he gets more votes. He also put up an Obama-Biden sign immediately after the election and wrote "Communist Socialist" on it. He also had a 4x8 sign out before the election that said something to the effect of, "If your children and grandchildren aren't better off than they were 4 years ago, you need to vote for Romney-Ryan," or some other such drivel (nevermind the fact that during the primaries, he had a Santorum sign in his yard). This guy's a joke. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who ever reads his signs, because I'm probably the only one who slows down and reads 3 or 4 words at a time and pieces it together over several days (and I do it just for the pure comedy). One of my favorites was a standard yard sign-sized sign that said, "No matter how many times you lie, Mr. Obama, it's still not the truth!!! Vote." That one took me like 10 or 12 times driving by it before I could piece it together, because on a sign that small, the words had to be printed so small that you could barely read them from the street.

Another one that might be more to the point, or more directly annoying to that sort of mindset - "Life is Good!".

(53,661 posts)She said "This country CAN'T TAKE another four years of Obama!! Aren't you afraid?!!!"
To which I said, "No, none of us are. We're perfectly happy with him up here."
Fortunately, these are long-distance, to keep the rabid foam out of my ear. She started on Glenn Beck years and began delivering the canned rants at a yell through the phone line, when I'd just called to see how she and her spouse were doing. I'd beg off discussing the paranoid subjects, and took her I couldn't talk about it because of BP.
She and spouse mainly enjoy the largesse from his VA rights for many years and now both get Social Security. I've posted some of the rants here on DU.
That 'Life Is Good' sign would help anyone. It's good enough for me, despite anything.

(3,784 posts)Because I'm pretty sure his massive sign violates it. The problem is, even though it would make me happy to see him forced to take it down (after all his hard work and all), all it would do is confirm every conspiracy theory in his tiny "everybody's against me" mind. I'm sure he'd take it as yet another infringement on his "rights" by Big Government thugs.
Plus, as I said, I don't think anyone really reads his signs anyway, and the ones who do pretty much consider him a big joke.
I did consider "altering" some his signs in the past, but I never did because first of all, that would make me no better than the jerks who stole my yard signs during the last 3 elections, and second, I'm pretty sure he's got a "hidden camera" (that phrase is in quotation marks, because I spied it within seconds, just driving by) trained on the sign to catch "morally and ethically depraved liberals" committing crimes on his property and violating his rights (which, again, would confirm every little "liberals are evil and will silence you for having an opposing viewpoint" conspiracy suspicion in his diseased mind).
