Brent Bozell, political activist and founder and president of the right-leaning Media Research Center, intends to alter the employee insurance plan at MRC so it will no longer offer contraceptive, sterilization and abortifacient services, according to a staff-wide email Bozell sent, obtained by The Jane Dough.
In the wake of President Barack Obamas recent healthcare mandate proposal, Bozell sent a memo to staffers stating that he was horrified to learn that his organizations insurance policy, which is BlueCross, covers abortion services:
(W)e are working to change our insurance policy so as not to have to comply with this administrations disgusting mandate to provide contraceptive, sterilization and abortifacient services. In the course of looking into this I have learned our insurance policy provides abortion services. I cannot begin to tell you how horrified I am by that. I never would have approved this had I known. It is the taking of a human life. That will change.

Of course, given that the MRC regularly publishes anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-feminist, and pro-Christian views, and that Bozell is on the Catholic League board of directors, what else would they expect of the personal conduct of employees?

(10,602 posts)Conservatives, the RW, the GOP and the fundienutzie churches as well as the Catholic church are showing their true colors. The argument all along has NOT been about abortion but the eliminations of ALL contraceptives and even family planning. It is interesting that their real intentions have surfaced at this time.
The opposition to national health care is based solely on the fact that they will never approve of a national system because it would have to cover reproductive services. All the other arguments are straw dogs and have been all along.
The Phillippines has the same laws that the anti contraceptive forces in this country would pass when they get all the power. The "Coat hanger GOP" wants to force the country to go back to the 1800's when even possessing a condom would get you arrested.
They used sheep skin or goat skin or what ever then.
In Idaho a self induced abortion is supposedly illegal. So I guess the GOP supports a national amendment to make abortion a criminal action eventually.
This election and the next ones are about where we will be as a country. We have a party that really wants to establish a theocracy supported by billionaires for their own economic interests. That would mean scrapping the Constitution that they so dearly love.
Their agenda is all about controlling women. Not about creating jobs or economic justice or having a decent society. What they want is even suicide for those people who call themselves Republicans.

(50,562 posts)The only part of the Constitution that right-wingers clearly love is the Second Amendment. The 1st, 4th through 9th, 13th through 17th and 19th Amendments, they can do without.
