So these folks heard about Stubenville, and they thought, "Wow, we'd better teach our student athletes better so this never happens here!" But what are they teaching their student athletes? HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA BETTER so they know not to post videos if they rape someone.
15 minutes of "don't use drugs or drink" and 15 minutes of "be careful what you post online" but no time at all for "forcing yourself on a passed out girl is rape and is wrong in every circumstance."

The rape case "definitely played a role in causing us to think, 'Who do we need to focus upon?' " Ihlenfeld told The Associated Press. "We thought, 'Let's start calling athletic directors and coaches to see if they're interested.' That investment of time hopefully will pay dividends down the road, not only because you hope the kids are going to stay out of trouble. Social media creates so many distractions off the field for coaches. Maybe we can help them avoid that situation as well."
The program was unveiled in Wheeling, which is 26 miles south of Steubenville. It comes on the heels of a drug education program started by Ihlenfeld's office last year called "Project Future." The latest program, dubbed "Project Future Two-a-Days," includes 15 minutes focusing on drugs and alcohol and 15 minutes on social media.
"We bring the perspective of 'OK, if you do this, this is what can happen. We don't want to see you in court,' " Ihlenfeld said.

(1,799 posts)How about teaching respect for themselves and each other? How about teaching them that no means no and if she can't say it, it doesn't mean yes?
I'm all for teaching these kids to stop documenting their whole lives on social media and to stop with the sexting but let's not teach them how to be better rapists.

(19,537 posts)... which perhaps some of the Stubenville jerks will be asked to do when they go after the anonymous blogger who posted the info on what happened there to start with who's now being threatened with prison time far longer than the rapists themselves are facing. That is the kind of crappy country we are living in.
Kill the messenger, especially if you have to cover up your "sanctioned" crappy behavior as part of the "in crowd".

(35,359 posts)Local school district has an anti-drunk driving program.
They were looking to institute an anti-texting-while-driving program, but a local activist-mother lost her daughter to drunk driving managed to get *that* morphed into a "don't drink and drive" program.
So now by the time kids get their licenses they've heard two different programs, two years in a row, tell them not to drink and drive. They've heard nothing about texting and driving.
