Racist video by two Santaluces High girls leads to extra security at school

School officials are grappling with fallout from the widespread release of a YouTube.com video showing two Santaluces High students making racial remarks about fellow students.

The four-minute video, brought to officials' attention late Monday, shows two female teens sitting in front of a camera, one of them brushing her hair, as they ramble about some of the black students in their school.

The teens make derogatory comments about girls who wear hair weaves and talk about how students "start turning black" when they walk into the school. "You catch the disease," one of the girls says, laughing.

After giggling their way through the video, the girls conclude with the phrase "Peace and love!" and flash the peace sign as the video ends.

(...)

Santaluces High is 27 percent white, 35 percent black and 33 percent Hispanic, according to the latest enrollment numbers from the school district.

without advocating retaliatory violence against these teenagers, the bottom line is: you just don't say this kind of stuff in public. period. glad to see the community taking a stand against these empty heads.

Also, I wish this Palm Beach Post writer took another step in research for this story; i take issue with this passage "Asked whether hate crime or other charges were possible, (criminal defense attorney Michael) Salnick declined comment in detail. "People turn to attorneys for advice," he said." In fact, because of the 1st amendment, hate speech is not and cannot be a crime in the US unless there are explicit violent threats towards others or is accompanied by a violent crime.

Unfortunately, the power of Internet trolling or the general ignorance of the general internet audience led the Post website to put this bold statement in the comments section: "User comments are not being accepted on this article."

...the stupidity of this. That it is racist goes without saying, but why on earth would they post this when they attend a school with a large black student population? The YouTube generation continues to astound me.

It just sickens me that people use YouTube for something like this. It makes me really glad I graduated in 1998 before all this shit started happening.

On the plus side those two will have future careers at Fox News.

in the area where this high school is, 2 Clear Channel-owned AM talk stations dishonestly branded as "Newsradio" are available. They are WIOD 610 from Miami that has a real news show only in the mornings then the typical RW LimBeckHannity lineup all day long (and a Tampa bonehead named Todd Schnitt and another one Rich Minaya). And in W. Palm Beach (closer to Santaluces) is WJNO 1290, the station where Randi Rhodes got her start but now WJNO plays her show on 6 hour tape delay after playing LimBeckHannity and Mark Levin. At least there's this more sane station WBZT 1230 that broadcasts just the first 2 hrs. of Randi live in the WPB area. However, the girls' high school is in Florida's 19th US House district, represented by a Democrat, Ted Deutch.

I went to this High School. I graduated in 1989. This was a model school in the 80's and 90's because of its diversity, not in spite of it. Kids came from all over to attend this school. We had a top notch Football program. Many state championships in Basketball. We were the number 1 school in Drama - we went to at least 3 different state finals as well as national finals.

I went back to this school a little over 2 years ago and I couldn't believe how it changed - not for the good, either. We used to take pride in the school. We would make sure that it was clean at all times. I saw graffiti everywhere. This school is not in a "bad neighborhood". THis was an old Orange Grove area. There are new homes all over the place. But they have one thing that I think really brought the school down - they decided to fence in the entire school. So now they treat the kids like animals. And the kids don't care. How very sad. We cared when I went there over 20 years ago. I'm not sure I understand why they don't care anymore

"the bottom line is: you just don't say this kind of stuff in public. period" reminds me of when ari Fleischer said "you have to watch what you say"
people are allow to be as bigoted and racist as they want in this country. they are also allowed to display their intolerance.
im not saying what they did was a good thing nor do i agree with them. people can be as stupid, racist and intolerant in ths country what we should do is ignore them. they made an ass out of themselves, we took the bait and shined a searchlite on them and now are giving them much attention. there's nothing new here we know this kind of hatered is out there

...but what I find shocking about it isn't what they said (I know that there are racist idiots everywhere) but the fact that they would post this knowing full well that they would have to go to school and face the 35% of the black student population after this gets out. The video is also a slam at some of the non-black students as well, students that these two think of as having caught "the disease". I can't imagine that the rest of the school year is going to be pleasant for these girls.

The one's vehemently in favor of charter schools.

Yes I said that. Every parent I know in favor of charter schools, wants their kids away from the "riff raff" if you know what I mean. They want a legalized modern day white flight.

Very sad I still hold high hope for the younger generations, I have always held to the theory that older generations held on to these beliefs but to see young teens carrying on the ignorance of the past is so sad. As a Blackman I hold out faith that we can and will do better, with all races respecting each other.
