http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-3460_162-57382599/santorum-homophobic-former-senator-says/(CBS News)
Former Senator Alan Simpson had some choice words for his one time colleague, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
"I know Santorum, I served with him," he said. "He is rigid and a homophobic. He believes that gays and lesbians, he mentioned in an interview in 2003, about bestiality, and gays and lesbians. I think that's disgusting," said Simpson.
The former three-term Republican senator from Wyoming, who has always been known for both his candor and his ability to work across party lines, said Republicans are hurting themselves by focusing on social issues. <snip>

(13,259 posts)Quoting Simpson from the article:
"Here's a party that believes in government out of your life, the precious right of privacy and the right to be left alone. How then can they be the hypocrisy of fiddling around in these social issues? ......"
Never thought I'd agree with Alan Simpson about anything.
That republicans often don't start speaking the truth until after they are out of office.

(3,003 posts)....by today's standards, former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-WY) is a friggin' MODERATE.
JaneQPublic
(7,113 posts)The way the GOP has been going, in 10 years Santorum and Bachman will be moderates.

(50,557 posts)I have complete faith in the ability of Rick Santorum and Michele Bachmann to move even farther to the right than they currently are.
In the current Republican spectrum, Ronald Reagan, Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond would be moderates--that's how far to the right the Republicans of today are.

(28,552 posts)... that this putz get the nomination. I know it won't happen but his insular little bubble would get busted wide open when he finds out that only about 25% of the country shares his fuck-up worldview.

(5 posts)If we want to really be sure to prevent a Republican President we should help the easiest opponent for Obama become their nominee. A few years ago Rush Limbaugh messed with the Democrat Primary by telling Republicans to vote as Democrats in the Primary. How about returning the deed? Everybody should show up on election day to vote in "Ron Paul" for Republican nominee. He hasn't won a single state yet and it should be an easy victory in November. We can get this done if we work together. Check your states primary date http://www.2012presidentialelectionnews.com/2012-republican-primary-schedule/

(7,460 posts)Even Ron Paul is ripping on Santorum now, calling him a "phony conservative". So where does that leave their side? Defend "god's candidate" and decide that Paul is a nut, or to rip on Santorum now and risk being called "god haters"?

A Foul and Obsolete member of the catfood commission who spent his whole privileged life sucking off the government teet is the very definition of rigid and disgusting And Worse. These "moderate" Republicans do an occasional bow to the social issues while becoming more vile on the economic ones.
