Google seems increasingly evil. And most "alternatives" turn out to be Google-based clones.
Is there a real internet search engine that is independent of Google?

(135 posts)They don't track either.
I have compared how effective it is, but seems to be google w/o the baggage.

(17,195 posts)It is definitely slower than Google, and the results are not as numerous, but it isn't bad.

(9,644 posts)Google provides free services. In return they grab some semi-personal information that you voluntarily put online. If you don't want them to have your information stop putting it online. Stop using Facebook. Stop tweeting. Stop online shopping.

(8,021 posts)Does it harvest? It has some weird feature that prevents getting to sites that even sound like they may be porn.

No, it isn't. Requests are made from our server's IP address.

(1 post)the thing about google & other 'corporate' search engines isn't just that they share any info about u, google only searches & shows the results from any company who pays them for advertising, & Bing isn't any better for actually finding real results. I remember when the internet was a new thing, I used to use ICQ & Lycos, & they used to find REAL results that u could pick & choose from. Another of the algorithms in goggles programing probably filters out sites that don't have much content, or not often visited, but who are they to take the option away from us to decide how much stuff we want to wade thru', just because they want to make things easier for the lame brained, lazy & half witted & idiots like themselves who have no right to call themselves intelligent when they clearly aren't.
Even this site, as independent as it is pretending to me, or power to the people guise, it has a goggle search box. google is big-brother & if this site has been set up for them to keep an eye on those who don't like their fascist ways then good job, google is a moronic organisation & is too big for there own good, & the way they are buying up artificial intelligence, cybernetics & robotics companies, I think we can see who is going to be responsible for a type of 'Skynet' that will be the end of Humanity.
