Deputies: Teen shot, shooter’s father left gun with kids intentionally

WICKENBURG, Ariz. -- A 13-year-old boy is on life support after being shot in Wickenburg Friday night, according to a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

(snip)

According to Arpaio, the father needed to do some shopping, so he left his 13-year-old son and his son’s 13-year-old friend home alone. A ten-year-old not involved in the shooting was also left at the house.

Apparently, according to Arpaio, the dad had been worried about the family's safety so he left the gun with the kids thinking they would be able to protect themselves.

While the father was gone his son accidentally shot his friend in the head.

Doubtful. They'll say they have to consider the dad's feelings, but not his competency. freshwest Jul 2013 #6

I feel crappy posting that. But I wonder how far from the truth it really is.

I was on a forced visit to my estranged father. He was a proud "redneck," (his name for himself.) He was a working class, under-educated (8th grade) racist. He loved hunting. He loved his guns. While there, he took my stepmother (his 4th wife) on a weekend hunting trip, leaving us kids, myself and my deliverance-like step siblings, alone. He told us all that, if we needed it, his loaded handgun was in the drawer next to his bed.

I spent the weekend terrified that I was going to do something to piss off a step-sibling, or that one of them would decide to take it out back for target practice.

Thankfully, I survived and was able to go home soon after. The last trip to visit my father in my lifetime.

I couldn't help remember, reading this story. Why do people think guns make us safer?

The child was on life support over the weekend before succumbing to his injuries on Sunday, MCSO said.
The family at the home where Brady was shot says their 19-year-old daughter has been dealing with a stalker. That’s why the family bought a gun as a safety precaution.

DON'T LEAVE THEM ALONE! Second of all, DON'T LEAVE THEM ALONE WITH A GUN!

Will anyone be held to account for this or will it just be called and unfortunate accident?

If the guns are removed, some group will send him new ones. Because the world is a dangerous place.
