Monkey Island, Cleveland Zoo, sometime in the 1950's

An analogy:

Back when I was a kid I lived in Cleveland for a while. The Cleveland Zoo wasn't far from the house and I walked down there often. At the Zoo they had an attraction that I believed was call "Monkey Island". The island was a pile of rocks surrounded by a narrow pool and then a wall with a fence. The pile of rocks was habited by a whole bunch of monkeys. You could walk around the island and watch the monkeys frolic if you wanted to but mostly they just jacked off and tossed shit at each other so it really wasn't a very appealing sight.

I was reminded of this when watching the House of Representatives on C-Span.

at the zoo in Evansville, IN. It had a scale-model masted vessel in the middle of a putrid pond, which at least afforded them the opportunity to climb ropes and whatnot, and it was still more productive than Congress nowadays.

The monkeys really ruled that section of land and the keepers let them - as it should be.
