Scholars of Islam, such as Sheikh al-Islam Imam Malik, and Imam Shafi amongst others, ruled that Islam disallowed homosexual activity and ordained capital punishment for a person guilty of it.[1] Homosexual activity is a crime and forbidden in most Muslim-majority countries. In the Islamic regimes of Iran, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, North Sudan and Yemen, homosexual activity is punished with the death penalty. In Nigeria and Somalia the death penalty is issued in some regions.[2] The legal punishment for sodomy has varied among juristic schools: some prescribe capital punishment; while other prescribe a milder discretionary punishment such as imprisonment. In some relatively secular Muslim-majority countries such as Indonesia,[3] Jordan and Turkey this is not the case; and there are no specific civil laws against homosexual practice.

My father had a very impressive collection of very exotic pornographic books (in the 60's) which I would steal and read..and I read about young boys who pleasured the rich...in Muslim countries...has that changed..or did it ever exist?

a joke or a en exaggeration till I went to the sandbox for a deployment. It is a part of the culture and disturbing and repulsive reminder of how "believers" can manipulate and twist dogma to fit any situation to justify their own actions.
I see RW Xtians do it here not nearly to the same degree, at least not yet. But crude AIDS jokes and dehumanization of "queers and faggots" is the first step to a pogrom. W must always attack and shame those who seek to divide and dehumanize anyone.

Some times it has really good, accurate, detailed, up-to-date information.

One of my wife's colleagues died overnight (years ago now) and she got a call early the next morning. I asked how old he was and she didn't know. I was at my computer and checked his wiki page.

It had been updated to include the date and time of his death and the circumstances of his death, and had been updated shortly after the dept. started making calls.

Sometimes it has truly crappy information.

Rule of thumb: The more controversial a topic and the less tied it is to observable and verifiable facts, the worse the page. Every once in a while "controversial" is strictly field dependent--"string theory" and some of its aspects are nearly as controversial as the Naqba.

When I wanted to get an understanding of the Stark effect a few days ago, that's where I turned. It went from basics to as far as I could follow and then just kept on going. It's not the same wiki as 10 years ago (and that's a good thing).

You don't think that's a bit of extreme thinking on your part? To blame an entire group?

I'm an atheist and I have zero use for any religion, but I don't paint all religious believers with the same brush.

A lot of Christians have been at the forefront of moving progressive values forward and their faith played a huge role. They're not out killing others who don't believe as they do.

Zimbabwean President Wants to Decapitate Gay Men and chastises President Obama.
The president of Zimbabwe continued his long record of vicious antigay rhetoric on Tuesday, when he told a group of supporters of the nation's ruling Zanu PF party that gay men should be decapitated if they cannot conceive children, according to U.K. LGBT site Pink News.

Speaking before thousands at a rally at Aerodrome, Mugabe said, "If you take men and lock them in a house for five years and tell them to come up with two children and they fail to do that, then we will chop off their heads," according to Zimbabwe's NewsDay.
