I'm now in the middle of this and want to recommend it again for "some DU'ers" who want "Union, Rights, History, Romance, Tech..." and a BREAK!
------------
"Titanic:Blood and Steel" Good Mini-Series re Labor Rights and Intrigue over Building Titanic....It's actually better than Downton Abby!

Kind of cool..as it weaves in Workers Rights against JP Morgan Corporate Rights vs. the Engineer who did "Stress Test" of the "Plated & Rivets" that held Titanic Together and his crusade to try to get them to do better steel quality in the Plates and Rivets that held Titanic together and how "cheaper won" while Women's Suffrage and Workers Rights (Labor) were Raging in the Background.
It's a Heads Up for something "Some" of our more Progressive Dems would want to Watch Live on Netflix. This is from the DU Netflix Site so it's "APPROVED" by DU for posting...here in
General Discussion" ...I think.
RECOMMENDATION FROM OP in DU NETFLIX GROUP:
Titanic:Blood and Steel
COMMENTER:
"This is a 12 episode series, not about the voyage , but about the life and times of those people in Belfast, Ireland in that period leading to the commissioning of the Titanic.
"I finished 8 episodes, and we're still looking for more! Nicely done and the story is always varied due to problems with labor, religion and romance."

ETA: The other British movie is "Comes A Bright Day". Highly recommended.

(39,379 posts)A little heavy, but in the life-affirming manner. Recommend for the work week moreso than the weekend:

(40,416 posts)That's the only one I know of.
Barbara Rush, Richard Derr, Lawrence Keating, and a bunch of bit players.
Actually not a bad movie for its day. Flawed by poorly vetted science, religious undertones, and some weak production values. Otherwise, it's okay. I like it.
It's also in color.

(84,711 posts)or other suggestions. I'm a Big Believer in Breaks for "Mental Health?" :shrug
But for some who loved "Old Romantic with Tech about Titanic and Workers Rights" my suggestion my appeal to them...is that many here would love "Titanic" and others might want to peruse the "DU Netflix Site Here" for other suggestions that would fit their own tastes in Media. STILL..there are folks on DU Netflix...who recommend some Very Cool Flix!
But, there's some good rec's on DU's Forum... listed below:

Only Sue Grant's PIX ...though. If one just wants to be QUIET....and OUT of IT!. 's
SUE GRANT's PICKS...VMM... she doesn't do it all nights...but it's a nice mix...for those who don't have thousands on I-Tunes. yeah..sorta mellow...not edgy..but, for some of us it might be fun....others might find too static. Still nice... When you are trying to find something to Cook Dinner by...

(9,696 posts)I wish they would have shown more if it.
It's fictional characters are woven into real events. This shows both the workers who built the ship and the engineers and designers who worked in the corporate office. Seeing the workers hammering rivets into the hull of Titanic was pretty amazing, something you don't really think about.

(84,711 posts)I'll check out Neftlix ...maybe it's on their DVD's. I was focused on "Streaming" for instant watch. But, I have both with Netflix. If it's somewhere else please post.

(9,696 posts)I also watched the streaming, but am wondering if the DVD would have more of the CGI. They could have made a documentary of the Titanic being built with all the CGI they did. More than any other "Titanic" movie, this gives a real feel for just how big it was.

(2,682 posts)From the library:
The Hidden Face - Columbian with subtitles. A jealous lover spies on her mate with unintended consequences.
In the theaters:
Dirty Wars - Jeffrey Scahill's movie about the Afghanistan war
Hannah Arndt - about a woman who reported on the trial of Adolph Eichmann in 1961 and the personal fall-out due to her reporting. Mostly English but some German with subtitles.
My favorite movie from this year's Seattle International Film Festival:
Halima's Path - Croatia with subtitles. From a review: "In order to recover the body of her son lost during the war in Bosnia, a grieving but strong-willed Muslim woman, Halima, must track down her estranged niece, who carries a mysterious connection to her son."

This disappoints me with Netflix and the other streamers.
