Writing contest focuses on race in American politics; winner to get $250
There's still almost a week to go in this segment of The American Pundit political writing contest, with the focus on racial politics in the United States.
From the US Supreme Court dismantling part of the 1965 Voting Rights Act in late June to the Justice Departments decision to reopen a hate crime investigation into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin following the acquittal of his killer, George Zimmerman, racial politics have featured prominently in recent headlines. But even before the United States was a country, the politics of race played a major role in shaping Americas destiny.
The July 16-31 segment of The American Pundit asks writers to consider the role of race in US politics:
From the recent US Supreme Court decision on voting rights to the Trayvon Martin case, race has come to the fore of the American political conversation. Write about some aspect of racial politics in the United States, be it historical, current or what you foresee for the future.
At least one of the two $250 winning entries will be selected from reports on this topic and announced in early August.
